Listening to Pope’s press conference does not give me a lot of confidence he has any answers for the soft as Charmin defense. Even with Butler the defense was a big problem.

Well if you don’t want any part of a team we have ragged on all year and a coach we are happy left then that’s great.

Come March in Nashville I’m all for a rematch.

Pope lost that game and got away from some very easy adjustments that he should have gone with. He also got tied up in trying anything defensively at the cost of offense, except Noah who earned some damn playing time tonight.

I’ve seen Cal lose to too many teams less athletic than his to give a damn about that so yea I’m banking on everything that needed to go wrong not 100% going wrong again.

Butler or not, get the defense fixed. It’s mostly effort and will and right now we don’t have it on that end.

Giving up 89 AT HOME to that team (take out the calipari aspect) is embarrassing. It wasn’t like Ark had one big run either… they scored at will all damn night.

They shouldn’t be sad they lost, they should be embarrassed.

We can’t keep relying on “all worldly” offense to win. We played good enough (minus the to’s) on offense to win at home.

I feel like I've been bragging about how much smarter the new guy is than the old one (or really anybody) and they finally meet and during the conversation you find out for the first time that the new one can't pronounce "Massachusetts", " aluminum " , or "cinnamon" correctly to save their life. It's not the end of the world but it's humiliating.

- This team was built for November

-- I swore I wouldn't judge Pope on this season and I won't but in last night's game alone he came off as a buffoon

Loss sucks beyond words, but I’m still 100% all in and happy to be where we are as a program. Thought Williams played his best game of the year, and I hope we continue to see it moving forward.

I understand Chandler playing last night because he was one of the few attempting to play defense, but someone at UK needs to get that guy a sports psychologist. He’s absolutely terrified on the offense end.

Noah not playing a second made absolutely no sense to me. None

It sure would be nice to have this team at full strength come March.

Load up on Texas Wednesday.

Tennessee gave us too much confidence we could beat anyone without our starting and back up point guards. Factor that into Arkansas shooting out their ***. Did Pope say why he didn't zone?

Said that analytically, Arkansas is “better against the zone.”

Our top two PGs (one of which is our best defender) are out. The rest of the team is made up of Oweh, Garrison, grad transfers who aren't good enough for the NBA, and unathletic freshman. We just beat UT at their place. I'm cutting Pope some slack here.
That was Cal's Super Bowl too. We'll be all right. I'm confident that Pope is a man who learns from his mistakes. He's learning a lot this year, especially how he needs to approach this league. We do need to get healthy though, and right quick!

Chandler shows glimpses of being a good passer, too, but he needs to see some shots go in. I’m very encouraged, though, that he is apparently putting in work and embracing being a defender.

I'm hoping Chandler turns into a Jeff Sheppard type in the next couple years. He certainly has the tools I think.

Well “analytically” wasn’t working last night so hows about we try something different. I realize he really doesn’t have the horses but that’s the job of a good coach, to put the players you have in the best possible position. Unfortunately he got schooled by an old head last night.

My son has a framed poster of Reed in his room and I’m contemplating replacing it with a Travis Perry one.
Reed's dead to me. Thanks for choking against Oakland, putting on a "Reed Sheppard Experience" to milk $250 / kid out of your fan base, and then announce you're going pro three days later. Enjoy being a D-League all-star. You and Mac McClung will have some epic battles there over the next 7 years.

Here is the thing about analytics and why we should have zoned last night. Cal sees it as a reason to play to the rim and not pass around and force threes.

So by his own default of stubbornness it would have pushed his team into not shooting as much and try to play at the rim.

I don’t understand why when you had Williams and Carr in that Williams was guarding Adou. Carr really wasn’t very good last night and is the one person the overly athletic Arkansas affected. So In that case go to that damn 1-3-1 with Garrison in the back and Williams in the middle and let Cal do what he historically does.

We can be better, and to that point I don’t think they can.

Period.

Arkansas came in averaging 95.7 points per possession in SEC play. We gave up 122.6.

Lots of other factors, obviously some shooting variance, but this team basically doesn’t check.
