it doesn’t seem like many euroleague-level guys are participating in TBT, unlike the early years with guys like kyle hines

otherwise you could add gabriel & willis to sestina as stretch bigs

is polson in playing shape? rather see him or dom hawkins handling the ball than goodwin

Archie was easily the class of the team...but wtf is his deal at the line? It's essentially the yips...could barely let himself even release it. Should just shoot a regular jump shot, imo - his stroke is pretty pure everywhere else.

Lamb was virtually unplayable -- looked like a 50 year old out there...as did Aaron & most of the UK guys, unfortunately. Andrew 2nd best, Whitney 3rd.

Need some more speed out there next year to create-- our slow *** shooters couldn't even get looks. FIRE SEAN WOODS NOW!

Not sure why they don't play. Their season lasts from September-April and is only 38 games.

I had a retinal occlusion (eye stroke) about 5 years ago in my left eye. For the first 2 years, I had injections every 4-6 weeks that rejuvenated the blood flow to the retina. Fast forward to now, and I only have to get one every 8-12 weeks as there has been noticeable improvement. My visual clarity in that eye is about 75% of what my right eye is. My retinal doc is a GD eye genius, perhaps the best in the country, and he saved my sight in that eye. Your % is not entirely accurate as it is dependent on the severity of the stroke, how quickly you get to the doc, overall health. This is what caused Kirby Puckett to lose his sight in one eye, as his was sudden and severe, and there wasn't a treatment then like there is now.

Good luck w/ it.

Was it caused by getting facials from the local gays?

Or did the sunglasses you wear in your twitter photo not protect you?

How did Almonor look? While he's got an old man YMCA game under the best circumstances, he is fresh off some starts in the best SEC in memory. If he wasn't athletic enough to play against TBT guys, it makes Pope's coaching down the stretch look even better.

@Strokin' Bandit -- what did Pope mean about "Wedging" being one of the two metrics (alongside "Legal Contests") that they are exclusively focusing on this summer? What I gathered from the press conference is that Pope has gone whole hog on defense this year and is (probably) not above Pitino-style psychological manipulation to turn this squad into a juggernaut.

When Mark Pope says things like "We completely stop practice to correct every mistake in wedging and legal contests", I don't think that is exaggeration. Other than Lowe, every major addition this year was a significant upgrade on defense. I think he saw an opportunity unique to this year with us having more NIL money than anyone else and went out and brought in a squad of dudes to mold into the best defensive squad in college basketball.

The potential is there.

"Legal Contests" sounds like 50/50 loose balls? Everybody's terminology is different.

"Wedging" isn't a term I've heard either, but it sounds a lot like "pinching" which refers to trapping the guy that gets a defensive rebound. I'm willing to wager that Pope wants to put the pressure on teams whether we miss or make on offense. Pope wants to build a nasty team.

Edit: So I looked up "wedging" and I'd bet Pope is referencing some adjustments in ball screen offense. Wedging can still refer to rebounding and getting nasty, but I know Pope ran a ball screen continuity at BYU that we called "WAVE" (and "wave" means something completely different on offense now!).

So the terminology is constantly changing, but I'd venture to guess - with the types of players we have this year - Pope is going to work in way more ball screens this season instead of post player initiation/Zoom action. I don't know. We'll see!

If passing out drunk in in public almost daily, pissing yourself regularly in the process and being a constant pervert that has no friends then sure.

Jealous?

My morning commute is an epic journey of driving and parking and bus riding into NYC. My trip in, I take Knickerbocker Rd and go the through a tough town Teaneck, but treated daily by a friendly wave by an elderly African American crossing guard….

on my way home, I take a different route up to George Washington bridge, then Palisades Pkwy exit 2 Alpine… probably the richest town in NJ and prolly Top 5 in US with monster mansions, where I’m greeted by an old white dude with a cowboy hat sitting atop his stone fence while waving at cars driving by…

All day long. I deal with boneblowers and douchebags…

I only hope one day these two waving guys know their importance to my life and keeping me sane, just doing God’s work by waving, smiling, and removing the glazed pall off my brain.

That's one of those anecdotes of "wealth / poverty come in many forms other than just money".

89 year old mother lives with us, has a hankering for lobster, will drive 30 miles to get "fresh" lobster out of the tank this weekend because that's the son I am...Can't tell if this is a dying wish tho.

Speaking of food, to get veal anywhere is a rarity these days, other than some half baked scallopini. Gimme a veal parm sandwich or a little pan fried in olive oil and I'm happy.

Vacay Rando's

Ireland - Guiness tour and tasting (yum), Irish Whiskey Museum tour and tasting (yum), Galway (awesome coastal town), and the Cliffs of Moher, which are stunning. It was 58 degrees with 30 mph wind gusts, and pouring rain when we were there, so we got the authentic taste.

Northern Ireland - As previously reported, we went to Giant's Causeway the day before the Open started right next door at Portrush. Just absolutely gorgeous. The rock formations look man made, as if someone put together puzzle pieces. Titanic Museum was neat, they had a violin from the deck and a pocket watch from a victim where the time had stopped when the guy went into the water. Pretty chilling. Also a great tour discussing the "Troubles" when Belfast was a bombed-out war zone.

Scotland - Easily best part of trip. St. Andrew's (made a putt on the practice green, so in a technical sense I played), Glenturret Distillery tour and tasting (yum), multiple castle tours, and also saw my family's castle (on mom's side) which has been there in some form or fashion for about 800-900 years. Owned by one of our distant relatives for the entire history up until a couple years ago. I'd like to get it back (the old fashioned way - by siege), so I'll need to form a drunken mob on horseback. Also found a family cemetery with one tombstone of a relative who died in 1484. Amazing.

Beagle - great recap. I'm actually doing the same trip, week after next.

Sounds like same route through Ireland that we're doing (Guinness / Galway / Moher / GC), then on to Scotland, where our plans are more flexible. Culminating in Oasis show in Edinburgh.

Love your recap, can't wait to go.
I'm assuming you already know that Edinburgh will be an absolute madhouse because of the "festival" starting in August? We heard all about it from our tour guides. Supposed to be a gigantic party day after day, after day, after day.........

* Dog days of Summer are brutal when it's been in the Upper 80's and 90's every day since mid-June. Pools went from ice baths to bath water in early July.

* Oldest is at Summer camp this week for the first time away from family. I thought she would struggle being the youngest there but she's been completely unfazed even after her closest friend went home home sick. When she called last night I had to actually encourage her to spend more money on snacks and treats because she was worried about spending too much. She's a good one.

* Youngest finished Summer Swim last week. Summer swim team, at least when it's in your neighborhood, has to be the undisputed #1 for youth athletics for kids and adults. This was his first foray into youth athletics since last year he was newly diabetic and he loved it.

* Speaking of, we're over a year into our new life, he's been on the pump since Christmas and his A1C is basically the same as mine now. I wouldn't say things are easy but kind of like when a newborn you're shocked how quickly you adapt and things just become normal.

* This season is neck and neck with Joker's last year for least optimism I've had for a football season. Maybe Wilcox or Gilmore will have a breakout year but outside of that I'm not sure how much there is to look forward to. I'm certainly not getting worked up for Calzada.

* Long John Silvers in Brannon Crossing broke the single day sales record on their opening day this Monday, some people were waiting in the drive-thru line for an hour plus. People really missed their fish and hush puppies. Similar thing happened at Taco John's and now it's a ghost town at dinner time.

* Just celebrated 10 years at my job last month, about 18 more years and I get to take an EARLY retirement.

* The Savannah Banana eating sh** on CNN doing a back flip is EXACTLY how I broke my nose and put a hole through my upper lip my Senior year of high school. I've described it to people before but now I finally have a visual because it's the first time I've ever seen anyone else land like I did.

Long Hall was my favorite pub in Dublin. Guinness tour is cool too. A weirdly interesting spot is St Michans church near the Jameson distillery. Just mummies lying in full view in the basement. It’s been a decade so that might not be a thing anymore but again, right by Jameson.

Not sure your timeline but a venture to the Aran Islands out of Galway is awesome. Such a unique landscape out there.

The buzzards are circling randoms:

  • I‘ve always been jealous of those that live in a close knit neighborhood. Talking the type that always has a certain garage to spot up for beers, maybe a bunch of kids the same age that raise hell together. I like where I live but it’s basically a bunch of houses and not a community.
  • Apparently my instagram algorithm thinks I want a bunch of reels showing the cleavage of women strapped into theme park rides. Maybe my instagram algorithm is right.
  • Did Scotland and Galway in May. Correct that Aran Islands are a must. We did the Isle of Inishmore. Rent bike, go through low hills up against the ocean, end up with a short hike to a Bronze Age fort perched off a 100m cliff that falls right into the Atlantic. Guinness waiting for you at a pub in a village of less than 800 when you pedal back.
  • Edinburgh, hard to describe the wonder and appreciation if you have any love of history at all. You have to time the fog right but the hike to Arthur’s Seat is a must.
  • This website sucks

I did thousands of back flips on trampolines and off diving boards as a kid. The first unassisted back flip I did on a basketball court I landed on my face so I never tried that again.

When I was 5 or so and scared of jumping in the water, my dad just threw my *** in and I loved it…I tried that with my daughter a few years ago and you would have thought I murdered her by her reaction.

She’s scared of jumping off a diving board now. So when we were down at a water park in Alabama this summer I proceeded to show her how to do a front flip and a “gainer” off the high dive - she still would not jump off, but it was nice knowing that I still have the skills even at 42.

My lass has tried to explain to her that I’m still a “dirty mountain boy” from Harlan and sometimes my overtures in trying to make her brave may scare her.

• Not there yet, but after this week of feels like 105-110, and the first part of next week being a possible 110+, I’m going to be counting down the days to Fall here shortly.
• I wish that we had a UK football season to look forward to, but 😔 I need to talk to my old friend who was the biggest UK optimist of all time, and never projected us under 7 wins. Even in the Curry era. He projected us at 7-8 wins in 94 when we went 1-10.
• The one guy who is probably thankful for all of the celebrity deaths this week is the Coldplay cheating CEO guy.
• I need some new/newer music recs. I always revert back to the older stuff that I know and like and haven’t been burned out on by traditional classic radio. I almost always get into the deeper catalogues of the more popular artists for this very reason.
• Speaking of- What are some tunes that you’ve heard a million times, but will still sit in your car until the song finishes? A few of mine are Sister Christian, Ready for Love, Walking in Memphis. For whatever reason, I’ve never burned out on those. 🤷‍♂️
• Summer sucks for sports! No wonder the Olympics are so great when they come around every 4 years.
• My Cardinals are in an organizational funk right now. They’ve held onto prospects who couldn’t be touched in trade deals (Gorman, Walker, Carlson, the list goes on and on. None of these guys have really panned out, while letting guys like Randy Arozarena, Adolis Garcia, etc, etc, etc go.
traded Tommy Edman for two guys who’ve already been DFA’d. Just a series of missteps over the last few years by the FO. Good riddance John Mozeliak! Ticket sales are way down, so hopefully this is a wake up call.
