Real question. Has the grip on the basketballs changed? Both teams had the dickest of fingers.

Cal deserved all the ire directed his way, but he was right about not tipping rebounds. Get your hands on it and pull it down.

Hoping this isn’t going to be one of the play-down-to-the-competition types of teams.

After that first 15 minutes, it was reassuring to see 77 points on the board. Can’t sleepwalk through a third of the big games.

W is a W. Go Cats.

It's nice to see this thread flourishing after we got football and basketball back.

I’m holding out hope maybe there might be more traffic after UL game but it’s sad to see. End of an era. Was a great run. Crazy to think this thread used to have significantly more posts and engagement than the political thread.

Maybe the team was used to Lowe running the show in this week’s practice and they were lost in the first half without him…. Maybe.💁🏻‍♂️

in any event, Oweh looked like Temu Azubuike in first half.

There's more old school Gyero people posting in Fityero than here. Between that and the super secret text thread they just don't have time for this place anymore.

This has become one of those unoccupied "oddities" that dot towns like Lexington. Like the little pool house, the space ship residence, or that old house downtown that used to have all those monkeys living in the backyard.

Welcome to Lexington Weird, GYERO.

I remember being told not to worry about losing Lamar Wilkerson and his shooting because we got Kam Williams 😐
We got Denzel Aberdeen with the spot we were going to use for Wilkerson. I'd far prefer him to Wilkerson, especially since Lowe is a bit thin and I've got PTSD from watching Travis Perry get abused by SEC point guards.

Our shooting will look much better when we have a PG, as we saw last night when Denzel took over for Colin and Jasper.

It is ridiculously early, but I think I've seen enough of the "Colin as emergency PG" experiment. He will eventually need to add that to his bag of tricks but that time is not now.

I'm sure the numbers don't back it up, but it FELT like we continually struggle "finishing at the rim" (other than that ridiculous slam by Chandler)

How long will it take Manhattan to implode? This guy is ready to take charge when needed. LOL

Guess I won't be traveling back to my native home anytime soon. I can see the boarded up windows and smell the urine in midtown from here.

Not impressed with Moreno so far. He needs lots of time and he obe of the worst free throw shooters ive seen in the early sample.

Getting both guards back will definitely help. Jasper will also have to learn what is and isn't a good shot. That will come with time. Noah just needs to see a couple go through the hoop.

One of my biggest surprises last night was Pope going almost full on Cal saying they've almost only been focusing on defense.

One that concerns me how bad we looked on ball vs Georgetown, but also makes sense to how choppy the offense has been.

Might just need to let the cake bake.

Well they don’t poop ice cream so I’m not sure what more you want.

-Feel a certain loyalty to the place, so I'll always be around. I suspect wcc and BBdk will too. I just don't see the main contingent returning. Forums are too public for old dudes, too many lurker weirdos, etc. Old days of cutting up and discussing **** that has no business on a public forum are behind us. The switch over to this mess of a website just kinda made it official.

-Chandler, Noah and Garrison with lazy Oweh ain't the lineup. 00 needs to pick it up. We don't have time for him to realize he's the leader.

-Game completely changed when Aberdeen came in. Swiss Army knife.

-We BARELY beat a hapless Auburn. I would almost bet Auburn's OL was paid to play that bad to get Freeze out. We'll lose this weekend, then get smacked by Vandy and UL. That'll be it for Stoops. The ship has sailed.

-drove across the state yesterday and the foliage was amazing. Fall is the ultimate give and take. Best weather but loss of daylight and impending cold darkness on the way.

Tyran Stokes dropped out of Notre Dame HS today. He was facing some sort of disciplinary action.
I say bring him here 2nd semester and let him practice-we have an open scholarship.

Let Mo mentor him/keep him in check.

If it doesn’t work out for whatever reason you can move on and replace him next year.

A squad next year including Stokes, Mo, MM, Chandler, Jasper and Noah could be epic.

It’s nice to see some of the gyero goats checking in today.

Yeah, people have short memories.
He’s not draft eligible and I’d trust Pope a lot more with him than Cal. Plus this team has a ton of veteran leadership he could lean on.

If it doesn’t work it cost you a scholarship for half a year and some NIL I suppose.

Devils advocate could say you don’t need any potential cancers for this team but getting him in here early to learn the offense and the culture might be best for everyone.

I don’t want Stokes. There, I said it.
I am tired of hearing about him already but that could just be some boomer energy on my part. Stokes may be the newest version of AAU baby and all the annoying things that brings for college basketball fans. He gives me a Rondo vibe.

I have questions about whether he's a unicorn guy or just a run of the mill great prospect that we see every year. He appears very physically developed for his age. Sometimes that means he's nearing his peak a lot earlier than other guys and sometimes there are marvels like Lebron or Herschel Walker who would be the best athlete at 50 in a lot of competitive places.

If he's a generic 5 star prospect, I'm not sure he's worth the PITA. If he's got a legit shot of being our Cooper Flagg, sign him up.

* Been going down a rabbit hole a bit on whether or not to be worried about our three point shooting. It is insane the team percentages these days. Last year the NCAA leader (North Dakota State) hit 39.8%.

A team shooting 40% for an entire season is insane. In 2024-2025, Houston shot 39.4% and Duke shot 38.6%, which is amazing when they also put complete teams on the court every night. We shot 37.5%, which was good for 24th in the nation.

Our best shooter, as measured by last year's three point shooting percentage, is Kam Williams at 41%. Well he looks like our 12th man at best. No one else shot better than 35.5% last year (and that was Oweh who isn't exactly a deadeye shooter). Most of our guys are 35% shooters. That's what Lowe hit as a freshman and Chandler and Denzel hit last year (are those two brothers from another mother?). Noah hit 33%.

In other words, to get close to 40% team three point shooting (which is the number the truly elite squads are approaching while maintaining top 10 defense), we are relying on everyone of our perimeter players to dramatically improve their shooting percentage from last year.

That's a big ask but Pope is also an offensive savant, so it is possible. It weirdly gives me hope to hear Pope say they've only worked on defense so far (by the way, he's got his own fibs, we just haven't gotten tired of them yet) and to know that we've only seen a few minutes so far of this squad with our starting point guard. We saw what that looked like.

TL;dr: Jaland Lowe may be the most important person in the Bluegrass for the next 5.5 months because we need that kid to conduct this offense like a maestro.

“I’m from 502 without a doubt. I don’t claim nothing else,” he says. “Any other city that y’all see me in, state, whatever it is, that’s not me. I’m strictly from the 5-0-2. Louisville, Kentucky.”
It would be one thing if he was our knucklehead but he doesn't even claim us. Coming here would strictly be a financial decision.

Cousins got suspended as a sophomore rather than his senior season. He also came here because of his loyalty to Cal, who despite how he coaches basketball, has a good track record with getting problems to buy in. I just can't see the same happening with our Mormon Analytics Nerd Coach (not an insult)

💯

I have been posting on this board (KentuckySportsReport, TheCatsPause, etc) since being introduced to it by SportsGuyInIndy all the way back when we were in high school and I'm in my mid to late 40's. In its height, I would spend hours a day hitting refresh and posting all sorts of wild stuff in GYERO of the past. Life happens, you get older, you have more responsibilities, businesses, kids, **** around the house your wife makes you do, travel sports every single weekend until you want to bash your head against a wall.

In my 20s when some Lurker would approach, already knowing who I was from the board, that was cool. Now, that **** is scary. In this P.C. era we now live in, you cant publicly say anything, even in a joking manner without having to worry about being doxed, the business you work for getting 10,000 negative reviews, death threats, etc.

Pair all that with the switch over from Rivals to what it is today, I've officially become a GYERO lurker.

Will always have love in my heart for GYERO. Where else have people met online, became real life friends, relationships of posters that became marriages, some relationships not (WCC, what was the name of the Blonde poster you dated for a while?), posters in each other weddings, posters that get together and travel around the country, this board is even somewhat responsible for children now being on Earth, just a hell of a story. There will never be a public forum like the heyday of GYERO, and I'm certainly happy to be a small part of it.

So glad the top-notch talent evaluators (lookin' at you, Eddie Gran) on Porky's staff dropped a big NIL bag on this clown. Talk about wasting resources.
