Pope - you have next year. Getting absolutely thrashed against every damn decent team we play isn’t going to last.

I’ll be 100% honest that I’m not so sure he does. If this keeps up in SEC play it could get bad for the man and he clearly knew that. You simply can not get destroyed 10-12 times in a season and there is easily 6-7 more teams that are capable of doing this to us the way we play.

I hole it doesn’t and he finds a way against the rest of the SEC because this is absolutely a bad matchup this season, but if it does continue it will not be pretty and I don’t think the leadership from coaches or players will be able to handle it by season end.

I just can’t see him being let go this year, unless he just absolutely hasn’t been able to sign anyone in the offseason.

At least with Cal you knew he was sabotaging the roster and the talent at least was there so they accidentally won these type of games.

These guys just aren't good.

Pope letting Chandler get abused all game while providing NOTHING offensively is malpractice.

Pope continuing to play the ball screens the way we have is malpractice.

Pope putting together a roster with 1 PG, 7 athletic freaks who can't score to save their lives and 0 reliable shooters is malpractice.

Pope talking about basketball like a woman from Savannah discussing her first trip to the grand Canyon is malpractice.

Pope refusing to use the bench as a motivator (aside from Garrison for some reason) is malpractice.

Pope having 0 recruits to follow up this God awful team is malpractice.

Its probably a good thing he didn't end up being a doctor.

It’s not just this simple but 15 threes in a game we lost by 15 is what it is. They shot 39 threes.

if there is a new coach the search is real simple: Nate Oats and an open check. I’m not a fan personally but it’s clear that’s the guy that fits here with our fans and preferred style.

Alabama is built to play the style we thought we were getting with Pope. Threes and shots at the rim. Analytics-driven.

We are built to play like a Cal team. Physicality and defense, but no perimeter shooting. Exactly what we were desperate to get rid of.

Pope is a system coach, so we're a system team with entirely mismatched talent. Worse, we only have one player who can consistently beat his man off the dribble, so there's no way to simplify things to mask our skill deficit.

I will never understand why Pope allocated resources and constructed the roster the way he did.

He'll get another chance to build a team next year, but he's lost all momentum. The fan base will also be justifiably skeptical until further notice.

Pressure is on.

We could shoot 40 more threes a game and would lose by double digits, this team can't shoot. It can't defend. It clearly has internal issues. The same Mark Pope that schemed a win by predicting what Flagg was going to do is now playing Chandler who single handedly watched about 8 threes go in while he tried to fight through screens.

This is Cal and Stoops 2.0. It's fine to lose when you are competitive and exciting (which we were last year) but going down 10 feeling like a death sentence at Kentucky is sacrilege.

Something has to go and it's Pope and Mitch. Our boosters are basically paying for 10 guys to make more than 75% of the fanbase makes in a year to be lazy and somehow entitled.

I've seen enough.

Nobody had Pope on their list of Cal replacements.
Nobody thought of Pope as a national champion contender coach at the time. Nor now.
Pope is not a certain for roster assembly. Last year might have been a fluke.
Pope is not a certain for offensive efficiency.
Pope is not a certain for defensive efficiency.
Pope is not a proven portal signer.
Pope is not a proven high school recruiter.
Pope has not proven he can stop UK from being blown out of basketball games.
Pope has not proven that he can win the most important games of his career at UK.

It is very fair to say Pope might be in over his head.
If something doesn't change, I for one do not believe Pope is 100% guaranteed to have his job next year.

I’m pretty close to being done guys. Ive got enough stress in my life from coaching fifth and sixth grade girls. I can’t tie my happiness to what millionaire 18-21 year olds are doing on the ball floor.

teaching little girls to be physical and box out will be what takes me out of this world but if I watch too much more of this **** it’ll be mark pope that takes me out

Yeah but other than all those things don't you remember he played here for a couple years (and even in the denim!) and also brought a bus load of former players in at his announcement extravaganza?

Also he made it through two years of medical school

We've just completed our worst decade in modern history last year [since before Adolph Rupp] Our win percentage over that time is 71.6%. Our all-time win percentage is 76.3%.

For comparison sake - the decade immediately following probation we won at a 78.4% clip. (that % includes two non-winning seasons!)

Our leadership in the athletic department are not serious people. Capiluto and Barnhart have done possibly irreparable damage to Kentucky Basketball.

Honestly following Cal was not going to be easy. He did everything we wanted except one thing in the end so you damn near had to be perfect or the pressure was coming quick.

I agree with everything being said negatively here even though I wish Pope knew how to just change for the rest of the season and pound it inside and play defense we can beat teams and possibly make the NCAA………that just simply is not the bar here and Pope knows it.

He is fan enough to expect better, and smart enough to accomplish it but his time is short if this is what we are going to be.

Pope will be a 22-24 wins guy, a 68% guy at Kentucky. He will lose 10-12 games every single season. That **** used to get you fired. But this is now. It's not the past. It's 2026 and Kentucky doesn't have a president or athletic director with the fortitude to keep Kentucky on top.

Instead Mitch will definitely give Mark Pope a hug and a vote of confidence and we will all get to sit through this exact thing again next year.

On a bit of a rant here, but...I remember how bad 2013 was after Nerlens went to down...but when tourney games were being played in Rupp while Kentucky sat home, someone hung a huge banner in Rupp saying "Keep Calm the Twins are Coming"...and in 1989 when Kentucky was 14-14 and our best player was from damn Savannah Bible Baptist - we new what was coming. We had hope.

Kentucky needs that same hope now...but currently the winningest, richest and proudest program in college basketball history has a bare cupboard for next season. How in the living hell is that even possible?

- Our defensive scheme continues to make zero sense. We consistently gamble on passes we have no chance to even deflect, we help off shooters on innocent drives into our bigs, we go under screens against shooters, we get lost on flares, we don’t re-locate when we give up offensive rebounds… just an all around disaster. Could be plan, could be execution, could be (likely) both, but either way it’s pretty indicting on this staff given the personnel and budget they have.

- Uh, why we start the game off with one of our worst line-ups? Why don’t our two most important players start? Why do we not play our best line-ups for more than 10 possessions a game?

- If you had told me I’d be posting ^after Cal left… well, I’d be pretty depressed.

- And why does Mark Coury - sorry, I mean Colin Chandler - still start and play most of the game?

- Not an original thought, but this really is just a Cal team with less talent. Can’t believe I’m still watching a non-shooting big back his man down from outside the paint while our other non-shooting big clogs the rim area and our guards stand around and watch from the perimeter.

- Don’t really know what else to say. I’m honestly shocked how bad Pope has been. We are playing an outdated style with an outdated roster. We have Nate Oats rubbing our noses in it after the game. This is literally the exact thing we were trying to avoid. It’s unbelievable.

And there’s basically no legitimate reason to hope for better in the future. Only thing I can compare it to is the feeling I had at the end of the second BCG year.. but at least then we knew he was likely to be gone soon. Just listless and hopeless right now.

I love Mark Pope man. I really do. I loved the idea of him being the perfect counterbalance to cal. But my man is 17-17 against power 4 teams in his 1.5yr tenure thus far. He has zero (!!!) recruits. Not zero stud recruits, just zero in general.
But this is on Mitch Barnhart. F*ck that sanctimonious prick. He made a lazy hire that’s going to set UK back for several years. GD this hellhole. I hate this f*cken place. I despise this place.

Read over at RR Mark Pope has the exact record after 50 games (33-17) as one Billy Clyde Gillespie, and a worse SEC record. Pope simply isn’t qualified to coach here. A third season will be UGLY.

The common denominator of course is Mitch freaking Barnhart, who must not be allowed to choose the next coach.

If we get the #1 portal college football quarterback transfer I really don’t wanna hear anything about this stupid JMI is handcuffing NIL argument then. That would be insane for UK football.
The argument was always about top tier basketball recruits being handicapped by JMI and them not closing the deal once Pope and staff got them in.

The weird thing is our talent is definitely better than getting punked multiple times already.

Mo D could've definitely posted whatever bug boy he had on him yesterday, but every time he got close to the paint he had Moreno, BG, or JQ down there bringing their man and whoever else was guarding Oweh there too.

Not to mention dipsh*t Colin Chandler (who has the bball IQ of a grapefruit) going under every single screen on the best shooting team in the conference.

It's not that GD complicated.

What exactly was our defensive game plan yesterday? It didn’t appear that we were focused on taking any one particular thing away. Alabama went anywhere they wanted. The big guys moved around unimpeded, the guards drove wherever they wanted and kicked out to open shooters all day. The big guy, Morrison?? was doing things, that according to the Alabama coach’s reactions, they had never seen him do before.
Where was the physicality that we saw against SJU?
