The current football student-athlete involved in this matter has been reinstated through the NCAA Student Athlete Reinstatement Process, which requires that he repay $2,660 in impermissible benefits, forfeit a year of eligibility (during the 2012 season) and be withheld from competition for the first five games of the 2013 season.

didn't see that in the NCAA release.

Yep, Clarion-Ledger has it posted as well now. Looks like Redmond is ineligible first 5 games of 13'. Does the 2012 loss of eligbility mean that he loses his redshirt year and is now a Soph - or is it basically unchanged since he sat out anyway?

This proves that the NCAA really could give a **** about student athletes. A 17 year old gets taken advantage of and yet he receives the biggest part of the punishment - not being given a 4th year to showcase his talents to the NFL or pursue a masters degree as most redshirts are able to do. Just wow. All because the NCAA feels like he got too good of a deal on a used car.

If this were the case wouldn't it have been written into the ncaa decision?

I hope Devinner is happy now.

I'm sure Redmond is the only player he's had a reason to question the recruitment////////

What a crock of ****...

What's the basis for losing a year and a half of eligibility for a good deal on a car? I thought the consensus on Sydney was that he got that much suspension because the NCAA decided he wasn't truthful with them, and I haven't seen that alleged regarding Redmond. I may not be remembering correctly, but didn't we get in trouble while Sherrill was coach for paying for some test for a recruit that ended up signing elsewhere and being immediately eligible?

That is ridiculous

I could understand 5 games but a year and 5 games? Ridiculous. Can we appeal?

Also, if the NCAA has not conducted a FULL investigation of the recruitment of ALL of Devinner's players, then it is a halfassed, lazy incomplete investigation. WHich I full expect that to be the case in this instance.

Does anyone know the breakdown of the $2,660? Is the $2K for the automotive discount?

I 17ing knew they'd give him over a year supension

I think that's only happened 3 times in the history of the NCAA, and all 3 were MSU players.
