Shaking hands with the team that beat you is a big part of the character-building lesson learned in sports. Everyone loses from time to time throughout their life. Someone else got the promotion, you get dumped by a gf or fired from your job, and on and on and on. How you handle it is observed and judged by a lot of people as an example of the way you handle adversity.

I agree but also see the points that have been made that I didn't take into account. At HS level it's a must to teach accountability and handling winning/losing. Wish the parents/fans in the stands would follow suit, but you shake hands, leave the bench area and lockeroom as you found it and respect other people's hospitality. Now go kick their *** between the lines, but doesn't always go as we'd prefer.

I will fall on Duke's side here. If your opposition is celebrating on the court after a victory should you just stand around and wait for them to line up to shake hands?

After a devastating loss, I would get out of there as soon as possible if the other team isn't ready to shake hands.
