Just realized HSHS hasn’t allowed an offensive touchdown since week 2….
They did last night. He had a few different faces out there for a few plays, working on playoff depth, but Hanover’s HUGE QB got’m one in the 2nd qtr. They’ve given up 4 TDs all season. Springers showed a NEW offensive weapon last night too! A 6’3-200lb Jr RB.

Someone that was at this game, please tell us about the Hanover offensive scheme. I’ve been led to believe that it’s just like the Clayton Cheatham offense. A lot of QB keepers, typically behind their guards, and the same thing handing off to their back?

I know with this score and outcome it wasn’t very successful, but I’m mainly interested in what they attempted to do.

They were most successful with the QB keeper and hand offs to the RB. Their score was a kick return. They couldn't handle HS's speed! Defending our QB, RBs, WRs, and the massive line (O & D) is a nightmare for any defense.

They attempted to go spread with power running read with their NFL TE size QB. He’s a load. They tried to spread out the HSHS D,and run him and the RB right at the HSHS front 6( HSHS plays 5 DBs). HSHS played them soft coverage in the secondary, forcing Hanover to drive the field. HSHS is just entirely to fast and showed experienced dominance in the trenches(even without Green). For some reason, they kept trying to challenge Highland Springs at the skilled positions. I admit, I like that new wrinkle of putting Noah Jenkins(6’2-200lbs),a bigger running back,in the second half to give Foster-Powell a break. He will ease the wear and tear on FP come playoff time. He adds another element to this already dangerous offense.

Funny you mention Clayton Cheatham as he is on the coaching staff.

He was our nemesis, but you have to admire his toughness.
That explains part of why they are using this offense. They have the horses and they have the coaching.

Based off how successful Hanover was against them. I believe PH is a better overall team than Hanover, especially in the defensive backfield. I still think Varina wins.
Varina-PH should be a good game much in the manner of Hanover-Varina, I don't disagree with you there. I'm actually thinking about covering that game in Week 10.

QB Sam Rogers (head coach) and QB Clayton Cheatham (assistant) gave Dinwiddie fits. In Cheatham's senior year he broke his leg in the first game against us (37-27 Hanover win) and then came back just in time for the playoffs and beat us again 23-17. I believe we have lost three out of five playoff games against Hanover (2009, 2011, and 2015). Dinwiddie defeated Hanover in 2008 and 2010. Dinwiddie does have a 2016 regular season win over the Hawks. Short, but highly contested series. PH Ashland is another story. Dinwiddie is 0-3 in the playoffs against the Patriots under Coach Mills. Maybe if it plays out Mills will get one back this year.

Those Dinwiddie-Hanover battles in the playoffs were epic. You knew you were always going to get the best out of both teams. I was witness to a few those battles.

Cheatham was suspended for the Dinwiddie playoff game in 2015. He came back against Louisa in the first round and picked up a pair of unsportsmanlike penalties. Marcus Bazala, who played QB most of the year went back to QB against Dinwiddie.

You are correct sir. I do remember that now. Good catch. If I remember Hanover had a huge offensive line too. I believe they lost to Lake Taylor in the state semi. I have a ton of respect for the Hanover program. Its tough to root against a Hokie alumni in Sam Rogers, but that may be the case come November.

I have a serious question about the Highland Springs/Varina game! I’m going to start a new thread with this question but I want everyone’s legitimate thoughts.

HSHS has had some epic battles with Hanover, especially in the Sam Rogers/Clayton Cheatham days. I found this on Youtube. 2012, Hanover at Highland Springs! Wow, what a game that was!!! DJ Johnson was HS's qb here. He is now HS's quarter back coach, and he is 1st cousin of one of our current standout players (QB/RB/WR. athlete Jakyre Henley)
