For 40+ years myself and many my age and older never heard anybody else call a MSU football or basketball game. Its hard to imagine anybody working at the same trade for the same company for 58 years.
I can still remember his sign off after the TN basketball game that was his last in 2011. Lots of dust in a lot of peoples houses that night floating in the air and making those eyes water as he recited "Wrap This One in Maroon and White" for the last time. Do we still have the audio of that on this site somewhere????? I just wish his last game could have been at the Hump, or even better if they could have done at least one last game in the old McCarthy gym so that he could have called just one more time there. Happy Birthday Mr. Jack, have a cigarette and a bourbon!

Jack calling it a career at an away game with no big fanfare seems like the way he should have gone out. he wasn’t a victory tour kind of guy, at least he didn’t seem like it

Here's a recap of the 2010 football highlights and some basketball. The last few seconds of his last basketball game against TN starts at the 10:57 mark

Being outside of the state of MS most of my life, it used to be very difficult on game day to even listen to a game, much less watch it as we can do today. Many times though if it were a night game, you could slowly move the AM radio dial and find some 50w station with a skipping signal and embedded in the static you would hear Jack’s voice and suddenly it was like Christmas morning.

For a brief period in the 70s or 80s, you can call a certain toll number and listen to some football games. Do I remember that correctly?

FWIW . My FIL (still the most avid State fan I've ever known) recorded hundreds of Jack's broadcasts on cassette tapes and we would like to find a good home for them where they would be appreciated and listened to. PM me if any of you have a suggestion.

Digitize them, throw a picture of Jack on top, and create a YouTube channel with all the recordings?

You might also contact David Nolen at MSU Libraries to consider whether they could do a special collection and do the digitizing for you.
