I thought it was Oliver Luck who got WVU into the Big 12.
Thanks to a poster educating me I found out it was Don Nehlen. Oh, I didn't take the poster's word for it. As always I did my own research.
Bob Hertzel column explained it:
How Nehlen got WVU into the Big 12 because he had a long and friendly history with interim Big 12 commissioner Chuck Neinas. So AD Oliver Luck and WVU president Jim Clements asked Don to go to bat for the blue and gold. He did. That opened the door for the Mountaineers to join the Big 12 and escape the downgrade that hit so many former Big East teams.
I suspect Oliver's Texas connections helped him know that Neinas and Don were College Football Association higher-ups who worked together for years. So I give Oliver second banana credit but Don top dog hosannahs!
