Has anyone heard exactly how this originally came to light?

No one knew anything about this till Mirando resigned - right? But supposedly we've been investigating since February. So what started that investigation?

I'm just amazed it was kept silent for 6 months. With all the "insiders" this board and others have you would think we'd have heard at least a rumor. There was no one publicly pointing a finger or making accusations. It seems to me that there are about 4 people (Herring, De'Vinner, Mirando, Redmond), who if they'd have just kept their mouth shut, none of this would have ever come to light.

So did one of these 4 originally spill the beans, or did someone else secretly come to our administration and tell them what was going on (maybe another booster, coach, or player who suspected something)?

You won't see any of the 'reporters' say it, but the AD office....

has stated it a few times.

That's my understanding as well --- but I wonder how we found out about it to even be able to self report? Did Mirando feel he was getting in too deep, had to get it off his chest? Did Herring approach another coach who immediately reported it?

I can't believe De'Vinner would have said anything if we were in the process of interviewing him.

Maybe we decided that hiring Devinner would give him too much power to hold over our heads and that if everything came out we would look so much worse for hiring him leading to harsh sanctions. once we decided against hiring him we had no choice but to self report as to not risk Devinner going to the NCAA and making us look like we covered something up, therefore thats how we come to the self-reporting. Maybe Mirando knew the whole story and when Devinner came looking for a job he put MSU and his relationship with Dan first and fessed up to who this guy was and resigned to keep MSU and Dan safe. If he didnt speak up and Divenner becomes entrenched with us it could have led to worse things for all and Mirando would not have Dans backing in future jobs. Good for Mirando, good for us self-reporting

Yeah, but why would the NCAA be interviewing Redmond in the first place?
They don't just up and interview signees, and I've seen several references to that interview having taken place before signing day.
The short answer is that one of the involved parties let slip something in front of or to a State employee, probably another coach, and we followed the correct procedures from there.

Seems to me the approach is: surrender and accept the penalty so they'll stop digging deeper. Mirando was chained naked to the rock. Booster dude has bus tire tracks on his ***. Perhaps there is an effort to make nice with the NCAA so the inquiry goes no further. Kind of the anti-AU approach.

Rosebowl has been "guiding" DeVinner - he's said so on his chat. That should tell you all you need to know about him.

I don't subscribe to scout but you have to be kidding me. Are Steve and Gene trying to exploit the fact that Paul's mod was committing NCAA violations? Absolutely I can buy that. But to insinuate that anyone that is a state fan is guiding DeVinner on his tour of delusion seems a bit cooky

1. Tennessee's compliance dept turned "rumors" into the NCAA about Memphis athletes because Tennessee wasnt signing them- they were being poached by us, Auburn, Vandy, etc...

2. NCAA questioned Redmond as part of their investigation on a few Memphis recruits.

3. Our compliance dept needs to take a course on dealing with the NCAA from Auburn and LSU.

Some hindsight comedy in there...

You only charge $25 to attend a combine, so it's obvious
you aren't in it for the money. - Gene

" The Memphis kids are very hungry and want to get out of their environment and have
success. And something about the Memphis kids is they don't forget you if you
help them. They will come back to help you out. They will come back and help
their community." - Byron

People need to understand this is all coming from Knoxville via Memphis. They have it out for DeVinner since none of his Tennessee kids have gone to UT. Which also tells me he is the real center of the entire investigation, which is why he's squealing right now.

So you're saying we didn't self-report? Or are you saying that the NCAA interviewed Redmond, nothing came up, but State found out more later which we then self-reported?

i think devinner was talking to miranda about wanting a job. miranda told him that he'd put in a good word for him with dan so as not to piss off devinner. i seriously doubt we ever intended to offer this guy a job, we just placated him with an interview to keep him happy. signing day comes and goes, we lock up redmond, then we put out a phone call to devinner and tell him that the AD and compliance wouldn't agree to the hire. this ideally keeps the staff in good graces with him for the next batch of recruits he's "handling". devinner puts the pieces together and figures out he got played and starts spouting off about the $100 handshake (seems at least somewhat legit given the disassociation and miranda resigning). now he's got mics in front of him nonstop and he's just slinging ******** against the wall with no evidence whatsoever.

Yeah he's squealing, but he's yet to throw another team under the bus? He claims he knows tons of crap from other schools... but WHY are we the only ones being mentioned? He hasn't dared uttering the school that offered 60k, yet (which I'd guess is UT). So, to me, it seems like he was just as big a culprit as the booster or Mirando and that maybe it's possible that WE called the NCAA on him. Which is why he will only mention us by name.

Either way... I stand by the fact that DeVinner is very much a part of this and may have even been the driver behind it all and he got caught and just wants to deflect as much heat off before the truth comes out. I've never seen a story evolve so much in a short matter of time... and it's not like its a story coming down the grapevine. It's different every single time he opens his mouth. Now he's saying he never actually saw any money change hands and he isn't 100% sure that Mirando knew... it's obvious this dude just sucks at lying and/or he has a serious mental condition.

In the end... regardless of what this turd-sammich has been saying, I still believe we have the same prognosis at the end.

Based upon TENNSTUD's post last week that UT compliance was interviewing him, I'd guess that to be the case.

Sounds like Tennessee has sour grapes. 17ing cry babies. You can tell MSU has gotten significantly better when UT has started focusing on us some. I really want an MSU blow out win over the Vols this year bad! I always do but my want has increased even more than usual. I hope we destroy the Nascar Vols and send Dooley packing. We didn't want Dooley and in the end we'll be the school that gets him fired.
