Says he committed to the state. Sort of suggests that he played Rutgers as the PSU FB player told me the other day.

Yeah, like we said the other day, it's absolutely certain that a kid with offers from every major program in the country "played" Rutgers.

This is a stupid thread. NSD is a long ways off and Edsall isn't cold yet. Let's wait and see A) who MD gets for a coach and B) if Haskell decides to take any OVs "just for the hell of it".

He spent boat loads of time at Rutgers with apparently no real interest. I call that playing them. They wasted time and effort on him. Not coaches' fault. It's dog eat dog game.

There isn't a university named after New Jersey. Maybe that's a problem, when looking through that lens.

Doesn't seemed to have hurt other state universities over the years such as Clemson and Auburn.

OP loves to post here putting RU down.
What that Nit FB player was supposed to have said to the bad penn st professor was the same thing SN posters posted on this board when the kid committed.
Should we expect an I was right post from each and every one of them.
Think the bad professor is trying to play RU fans and make them mad.
I'm madhat so you can expect to see some madness from me over a troll like posts from
professor baddie, but that's the type of post it does best and I only reply to point out the bad professor's habit of putting RU down every chance it gets.

Cut the crap already. He didn't play us. He was ours until a job opportunity arose at the last minute.

If the job stuff was true, and considering it's so widely talked about, Maryland would be getting investigated at this very moment. So it's not true.

The University of Maryland is not hiring the Dad, but Under Armour, which is run by a Maryland grad & former football player can hire anyone they want, including the Fathers of Maryland recruits.

How about the kid turns out not to be that good, then in 3 years this is all ancient history and no one cares. I've certainly seen this happen before.

Maryland would be getting investigated at this very moment.

Not only is this not true because it wasn't UMD that hired him, it wouldn't matter even if it HAD been UMD that hired him.

The NCAA has no rule against schools hiring parents or other family members, except (for some reason) with regard to basketball. There was a huge human interest story all over the news a few months ago about Michigan hiring some kid's mother.

Why would this not be reported on? Where is the star ledger article? Why not bring this shady practice to light? I don't believe it to be true.

Again - there's nothing wrong with the practice, from a regulatory perspective. It's perfectly allowable.

Why do we give a crap what Haskins thinks? It was a blessing in disguise. Russo is going to be a 4 star in no time.

He grew up in Highland Park. I worked in Frederick Maryland for 6 months. I am as much a Maryland guy as he is.

IMHO Haskins "played" people who hinge on every word teenage kids say about their respective schools, on twitter, not the coaches.

No? They're both the pretty clear numbers twos in their states, trailing the Universities of South Carolina and Alabama. But what can they do if those names are already taken?

Clemson is #2 in their state? Funny thing is Auburn might be #2 in Georgia,, as well, or damn close to it.

What an idiotic thread. What he says now in support of his commitment, when he is surely embarrassed to have committed to a terrible team with a coach being fired, has nothing to do with how he felt about Rutgers.

I've defended your posts before, but this is just poking a hornets nest with some ******** excuse of "see I told you so." Get this weak crap out of here.

I.

Many kids commit to the school, not the coach, let us not forget this. Doesn't mean he didn't have an " interest" in us, or other schools, just sayin' it's NOT always about the coach.

Of course that's true, but it doesn't change the fact that what the kid said, at this point, really has no bearing on what the OP heard, third hand, from a PSU football player, who has friends who know Haskins...maybe.

------------
the OP makes a big deal out of a small piece of information....that, Haskins was a Maryland lock from pretty much day one...

to that I say, big deal....I am certain there are many instances of a high school player having a college he wants to go to, and yet they
take visits all over the place...we see that every day....is this being "played" each and every time?

RU even knows this....but there is always the chance that you could make the kid change his mind....something could happen along the way
that alters the kids viewpoint.....you never know.... for some recruits, the fact that the head coach is leaving, the team is doing poorly
shakes up the situation....

it also was well known that one of Haskins best football friends was going to Maryland, and that kid bragged on the internet, about how he had Haskins
under his control and he would go no where else.... no secret info there....and RU probably knew also

so the OP suggests RU got played.... I prefer to view it as most do, trying to persuade a "lock" to give you a second look...

most here had some hopes, but knew that Maryland was a solid lean all along the process

you really didn't provide much in the first place, no offense.

Many kids do but many more care about the coach, the scheme, playing time, etc
If some of you are to get your way and Flood is let go...you better hope we make a dynamic hire immediately. We will find out very quickly how many commit to a school.

He's committed to UA thanks to Daddy's new job.

Ah, so this is going to happen every time we get a good recruit I guess? First it was Diamond Stone, now Haskins.

I'm not naive enough to think that MD is not using Under Armour to it's advantage (as it should), but it's a ridiculous claim with absolutely zero proof that UA is flat out offering full-time job to the parents of big-time recruits.
