JW if there had been much deer activity across the state. Hunted opening day through yesterday in northeast MS. We (not me) killed 2 nice bucks opening day, but didn't see another the entire time. One buck appeared to be rutting, while the other wasn't. Wanted to see if anybody else noticed any early rut activity. The weather sucked and there were mosquitoes a plenty. Nice turkey activity though.

Plan on hitting the stand again Friday, possibly Saturday morning before game and Sunday. Hopefully they will be moving with that front coming in.

We have hammered the does with 38 harvested and a goal of 80. Does are pretty wary at this point.

Not much since then, we really need some cold weather. I saw plenty of scrapes, most probably territorial right now.
The deer I saw were eating white oak acorns, as they are plentiful this year.
There is no need to be hunting food plots until those acorns are gone. Heading out this afternoon and will be in the woods most of the weekend..

noses to the ground and one was grunting. she was playing the part too, skipping around and looking back. swishing her tail to the side.

never seen any activity that early before, but young bucks will start to chase early sometimes.

this was about 25miles south of jackson

also, just now starting to see a little scraping

I did not see a deer this past weekend but only got to hunt Sat afternoon and Sunday morning. The weather has just been awful. It was so damn hot and humid sat afternoon that I was miserable fighting off the skeeters and sweating my *** off.

Gonna give it a go again this weekend but we need some cold weather.

There are more acorns on the ground at our place than I have seen in a while. You are right about the food plots, the deer have no reason to use them right now. I don't know if they will be in food plots until January.

I hunt around the Clay, Oktibbeha county line. Bucks on our place still seem to be running in bachelor groups somewhat as I saw five together walking single file through a bottom on our place. We have seen a lot of doe movement this year though. If the weather would get in line this could make for a great season. I'll be in the stand Saturday and Sunday morning, hoping for some early chasing like the rest of you have seen.</p>

after a doe on the 18th (Calhoun County). Damn yellowjackets were trying to tote it off while I skinned it. Saw a couple of does the evening before & that was the first two we saw Friday. Didn't hunt anymore cause I didn't want to cut up any more meat. Going to try them out tomorrow.

Not that I oppose to killing deer. I just don't like to hunt anymore. I'll eat me some deer sausage.
