I can honestly remember very little about the 97 Egg Bowl other than the last drive, picking up with Jackie's decision to go for a long field goal with Hazelwood.
I remember a LOT more about the 1999 Egg Bowl. That game and the 1996 Bama game were very similar for me. They both seemed like these epic games where time seemed to stand still. I remember that we hardly had the ball in the first quarter, Joe Gunn going down, and being surprised that Ole Miss could run on our defense. I remember Smoot having one of the most incredible interceptions that I have ever seen that took a sure TD away from Ole Miss. I remember Toward Sanford fumbling and the ball landing right in Barrin Simpson's lap. Dicenzo running for that TD in the second quarter and how well we blocked and executed that play- and then Westerfield missed the extra point. I can't forget Pig's special teams brain farts. And of course, how can anyone forget the pass to CJ Sirmones and then being shocked when Ole Miss threw the ball up for grabs and Bean kicking it to Eugene Clinton and then knowing without a shadow of a doubt that Scott was going to nail the field goal for the win. It wasn't a clean game by either team, but it was without a doubt a great game. It was the best Egg Bowl I have ever seen, and it gets bonus points for being on Thanksgiving.
