Here is what I do not understand from the "screw em and ring it" crowd....

....All of us, except for our rebel bretheren, love State enough to get on this message board and obsess over every daily details related to Mississippi State athletics. Most of us on this board go to the games. The ones that don't follow it closely. We care about State enough to spend a bunch of money driving, tailgating, and spending the night to watch the team. If we all love State so much, why do people not give a crap about fines?

We have the smallest budget in the SEC and we are handicapping ourselves even further with financial penalties. This is ridiculous.

I've seen several posters say that next year, we'll just go back to hiding them in our pants, etc. Do you just not believe that they will fine us? Do you think that this is all a show just for the fun of it? Do you think that the fine structure is insignificant to your 'right' to ring a cowbell?

Someone please explain this line of thinking to me. Make me understand.

College student (or anyone for that matter) plus cowbell plus game day atmospere plus a belly full of alcohol does not nor ever will mix with a Ring Responsibly Campaign.I am not saying you are wrong on your opinion, but the cowbell issue was set up to fail from the beginning.

It is the other 20,0000 grown adults ringing bells throughout the game that are the problem. I don't think anyone, including the SEC, ever expected the students to behave responsibly. This set of conditions and rules were meant to curb the adults in the crowd to bring the bells to an acceptable level.

No, I don't think they will... because when the number of cowbells in the stadium drops from 30,000 to 2,000 the sound will not be a significant factor, and if the SEC fines us for a handful of the fans ringing them they will have a horrible PR nightmare on their hands.

1) The students clearly are not the only source of the problem. Even if you take the student section out of the equation, it's pretty obvious that there is a significant enough group of fans that ring their cowbells during the game to probably get us fined.<div>2) The Ring Responsibly campaign has partially worked. When you compare how loud the cowbells were against UF or Alabama last year to UGA or Auburn, I think there's a pretty big gap. And I'm willing to bet that the upcoming games against UK and Arkansas will feature less illegal ringing because people are starting to realize that this isn't just an "oh well take the fine" situation.</div><div>
</div><div>Also I doubt the majority of fans have even thought about how these cowbell fines will affect theathleticbudget.</div>

We have got to start at some point watching the big board on when to ring. I agree the students are only part of the problem, as I have stated I have caught myself ringing at the wrong times. I think if we start with the Kentucky game getting better the AD will have something to fight SEC with. This isn't a overnight thing. The SEC needs to be working on things like how to keep Boise and TCU from screwing us with easy schedules. What would Boise's schedule be if they played Auburn and LSU like us.

We need to just give the AD something to work with. They should of started getting the word out after the Auburn game. They dropped the ball and now were up against it. If the season ticket holders just get off the XXX and pay attention and the sober students pay attention we will be OK. I guarantee you the noise level at the big stadiums are much louder than we are even with us ringing our bells.

Why should the fair weather MSU fan care about what fines the athletic dept has to pay. not costing them any money. They buy a ticket and go to games when we win and have a good team. If we dont have a good team and lose they dont come to games
