What crew for what network do you enjoy listening to the most? What about the worst? It can be for any sport at any level... I'll start us off:

I think the MNF crew is the best. Tirico gives the game a lot of energy while Chucky gives us a lot of in-depth analysis of the game. He is by far the most knowledgeable color guy on television. Love watching a Monday Night game with them.

The worst... not really crew... but Chris Berman calling the home-run derby is horrendous. He's not THAT bad calling the US Open, but I can't get past the "backbackbackbackback... gone!!" I can't listen to Berman.

On a side-note, I had a love-hate thing for Madden. He would say the most senile, stupid stuff, which was sometimes hilarious and sometimes "WTF??" Al Michaels is a legend, but sometimes, he and Collinsworth can be very bland. Collinsworth knows his stuff, though.

The worst is no doubt VERNE LUNDQUIST and Gary Danielson. Can't stand those sob's. Plus they hate State and Starkville.

Tirico and Chucky are the best.
Honorable mention- Mike Emrick calling hockey

Matt Millen and whoever is unlucky enough to get stuck with him are the worst.

Verne and Gary = Worst duo, Matt Millen and Andre Ware = worst

Matt Millen is almost painful to listen to. Verne at least has the demented ol grandpa charm going for him.

HOW. DO. YOU. DO.

I'm a big fan of Brad Nessler. And I miss Gary Thorne's hockey calls.

Agree with you on Matt Millen, but I enjoy listening to Andre Ware. Guy knows his stuff. He can be a drag at times, but at least he's knowledgeable.

Verne and Gary are horrible, too.

Shaq and Charles Barkley on TNT's NBA Pregame show is quite entertaining to listen to. Even if you don't like the NBA, take the time out of your day to watch that show. Top shelf stuff. Best overall pregame show on television (I do like "C'mon, man," but that is the only part of the MNF pregame show I care to watch)

Sean McDonough and Pam Ward are the worst and I am not sure it's close. There is a reason they dominate Tuesday night MAC coverage. I actually think Danielson is pretty knowledgeable, but Vern ruins it when he does the "hmmmm" sound when Danielson makes and interesting point. Sounds like he is taking a dump in the booth.

Tirico and Tessetore are the best play by play guys, and Gruden and Mayock are the best analysts.

IMO, Summerall and Madden is the best duo of all time.

The old TBS Braves broadcast with Skip Carey, Joe Simpson Don Sutton, and Pete Van Wieren. Those were some great games, and fun times if you were a Braves fan. also liked John Miller and Joe Morgan on the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast. Now any game in any sport called by a woman makrs me want to hurl.

Musberger is horrible. Karl, do you remember the Major Applewhite years at Texas when Musberger called several of their games? When every other word was "The Majoooor!" What a clown.

Joe Simpson is 17ing terrible but the absolute worst in any sport is "Hawk" Harrelson for the Chicago White Sox. He is the most brutal homer ever. The best? That's easy it's Vin Scully for the Dodgers. He does every home game all by himself and you can listen to him for hours.

Ron Franklin for Saturday night ESPN games was the gold standard, but they banished him to the Big 12.

How has Jesse Palmer gone unmentioned this long? He's an insufferable know it all, and even his contemporaries complain about his color commentary.

I don't remember crews that well, but the worst in my opinion is Joe Buck/Tim McCarver. Both are overly grandiose. I usually want to turn the World Series on mute.

The best in my lifetime was Pat Summerall and John Madden. Listening to those guys in the '80s and '90s was a treat. MNF has has many great teams, whether it was Frank Gifford/Don Meredith/Howard Cosell, Al Michaels/Frank Gifford or Mike Tirico/Jon Gruden. Those three teams had chemistry.

If we're just talking single announcers, the ones I can't stand are the following:
Marv Albert (got sick of his fellatio of Michael Jordan in the '90s)
Jim Nance (gets a bit too cheesy at times for me)
Brent Musberger (you suck, padnah)
Jay Bilas (hates MSU, arrogant)
Dan Dierdorf (arrogant, states the obvious too often)
Dave Neal (he has gotten better as his voice has dropped over the years, but I got tired of his fellatio of Eli Manning a decade ago)
Billy Packer (arrogant, very negative commentator)
Joe Buck (see above)
Jimmy Dykes (yeah, we know you played at Arkansas)

Ones (that are still active) I really like:
Ron Franklin
Gus Johnson
Martin Tyler (British soccer announcer - pipes of silk)
Al Michaels
Greg Gumbel
Troy Aikman
Mike Tirico
Jon Gruden
Brad Nessler
Bill Raftery
Gary Thorne
John Saunders

Kara Lawson is the only female announcer I've liked. She knows her stuff.

I really like the Nessler/Blackledge duo.

I've always liked Tirico and Gruden.

Musberger is awful, but I don't mind Herbstreit.

Gus Johnson calling March Madness = Gold Standard.

I seem to enjoy Clay Matvick's calls on the U. Tessitore did a fantastic job during our game against UT.

If you're into soccer, Martin Tyler is great. Ian Darke calls most U.S. games and many EPL games for ESPN and he is outstanding.

I noticed several favorable opinions of Brad Nessler in the thread. Does no one else find him incredibly patronizing and condescending at times?

I recently watched the ESPN specials on Bo and Herschel. There were several highlights with Keith Jackson making the call, I forgot how good he was. For college football the only one close is Ron Franklin, but due to some poor personal decisions, we was banished to the mid-west.

Gus Johnson is my favorite....

I also like Brad Nessler and Todd Blackledge as well. Verne and Gary have ruined the 2:30 SEC game in my opinion They put me to sleep, I don't see why CBS continues to employ those two...

Ron Franklin - May not be best, but admirable..

68-year-old Ron Franklin was pulled from the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl radio game coverage for lodging derogatory comments towards sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards during a production meeting. Allegedly, Franklin demeaned Edwards calling her “sweetcakes,” then cursed at her when she expressed her discontent with the word.
This is Ron Franklin’s second run-in with female co-workers since a 2005 incident with sideline reporter Holly Rowe.

You know of what you speak. Hawk "he gone" harrelson is a 17ing joke. He refers to all the chisox players by their first name and his signature phrase is not only annoying but also grammatically stupid. Does any other announcer have a go to phrase for a strikeout or home run, no.

Vin is also the best out there. Takes you back to a different era.

I really like Gus Johnson. The excitement he brings to a game is contagious. Ian Darke, although I'm not a big soccer fan, is fun to listen to as well.

Matt Millen has got to be the worst.
Herm Edwards was pretty awful at it when he did it that one year, too.

Blasphemy! It's not officially college football season till Holtz picks South Carolina to be in the SEC champ game and ND BCS champs! You can practically see the leaves turning the first prediction show.

i like joe simpson for the braves but chip caray is awful. as far as baseball goes as state fans we are spoiled with jim ellis. as a baseball announcer he is top shelf.
i like nessler and blackledge on saturday nites.

the absolute worst announcer at any time in any sport without comparison is clark kellogg. he is an absolute joke. i dont see how nance can work with him. he talks non stop about something that happened 3 possessions ago and nance cant even do play by play. as bad as he was kellogg makes me long for the days of packer.

I'm digging deep on these...

Before ESPN came in and 17ed it up I used to enjoy watching the Rose Bowl with Keith Jackson and Dan Fouts commentating. To me, the Rose Bowl was synonymous with their voices, solid crew back then.

Also, I enjoy Greg Gumbel and Dan Dierdorff on CBS/NFL. They gel well together, and Dan's older persona has adapted well to the new age of the NFL while still able to but the old skool spin on it.

Good: Keith Jackson, Ron Franklin, Madden-Boom!
Worst: Too many to count, but after watching today's game I can't stand to hear "the man that uses a million words yet says nothing" Phil Sims

Any list that does not begin with Vin Scully on the best list is incomplete.

I could listen to Vin Scully everyday if i could. I remember when there used to be baseball on TV on Saturdays and he was frequently if not always the announcer. I was young, so I don't know if he was the dedicated announcer or not, but he is the best ever in my book.
