I went there during the day a couple of times back in the day because someone lost something there. It was a dump back in 1980 already. I did get a bunch of free beer there. That was my biggest NCAA violation.

I did meet my wife there.

Went once, at night on a trip to set a school schedule as a transfer student. Went with a "friend", but after...... she as bit bit more than a friend. That was a nice first 2 semesters at MSU.

Like you, would have never recognized the building.

I can say w/ certainty that as many times as I was in there, I never would have recognized this building. I NEVER saw it in the daylight, only after 10:00 pm. Comments that were made said it was also "The Southernaire" in its earlier days but that was before me

Saw many a fight in that parking lot. Wonder how many metric tons of puke were laid on those grounds?

If you ever wanted to start a fight...this was your place and you could do it just by walking in the door . I have been in a hundred beer joints but this place was like the "Double Deuce" before Dalton showed up in the early 70's. Good times !

Wish a picture of Len Lew's would surface one day (Echol's a bonus). I'd love to compare what's in my minds eye with what actually was.

My dad told me a long time ago that you could pull up to Echols back in the 60's when it was just a produce stand and store. He said they had big jugs of apple cider out front of regular apple cider, but, you could go to the person at the register and ask for "some of that 'sweet cider' " and they would get you some moonshine they kept in the back. I don't know if that was Mr Echols place then or not. When I was being rushed before coming to school here I came up to some frat parties they had out in the big pasture behind Echols, kegs strategically placed all over the place, some bands playing, and lots of females. That was my first taste of college life, great times...........

Never would have recognized it; of course I could only find Mack's Supper Club if I was drunk.
I've probably told this story on here before but my first trip to Mac's was with a few other new MSU guys like me from Suttle, we followed some others out there. We walked up to the door and its locked. We could hear everybody inside and knew it was open. Somebody w/ us knocked on the door and Mac opened it up just a crack and said, "what's the password"? We all looked at each other not having a clue what the password was at this speak easy looking joint. He slammed the door, we were ready to walk away and he opened it back up laughing his azz off and said "come on in freshmen, there ain't no damn password except the money in your back pockets, now get in here and start spending it"! That was the first night I heard him sing "Roberta, Roberta"

You’re right, Thatsbaseball. In ‘70 and’71 you could easily get in a fight there whether you wanted to or not.

Big Ben and the nomads! Best party band ever. “ it would take a miracle.“ “ “come on over.” “I’ll step aside.” Etc.

Was that in its "Southernaire Days"? I don't remember it having live music when I went, just a DJ.

Pretty sure I went there the summer before my senior year in high school. Got dragged there by a local while I was in a summer program in Columbus.

Went in the Southeraire once. Had not been there long, and a big fight broke out.
It was at night, and I could not tell you what it looked like. I thought it was bigger.

I remember it. Not certain but think Charlie Rich played there when I was a junior at State. Or maybe it was the Sno White Club

Although I went there many, many times, I only went there when the sun was still up one time. I don't know what time they opened but it was a very light crowd. Probably around 50 people. Went to the men's room and there was some drunk/high guy stumbling around in there looking over dudes shoulders while they were pissing. He did it to me and I lost my ****. I stopped mid-stream and with it still hanging out, turned around and grabbed him by his waist and collar and flipped him over into the trough. I remembered then that Pickle was already there bouncing so I got the hell out of Dodge and just wandered around the parking lot until enough people showed up that I figured I could blend in and be safe from Pickle's wrath. Years later I became friends with Pickle and told him about that. Pickle replied "Hell! I remember that! If I'd known that was you, I would've shook your hand."

Back behind that little extension of the Bldg on the right was a great pisser when the inside one was full.
You didn’t want to go very far behind it thor you’d find yourself in the Tombigbee and it was a steep dropoff.
Big Bob the bartender was a good one to know.
As was the big +|++¥ brunette - can’t recall
her name but she “dated” - hell, may have married a mid 80’s DBack
LOTS of fun times had in that joint!

Back before there were fan days for football, you could meet many football players on Thursdays nights at The Club, Circa 90-92

About a quarter of The Club was literally hanging out over the Tombigbee. It was propped up with 45* pilings back into the bank of the river. The restrooms for sure were hanging over water.

Back in the early to mid 70’s I was in there waaay more often than I should have been. I went to high school with a guy that was the bouncer there for a long time. Back in the day my wife and I went to the Silver Spur on Friday nights and the Southernaire on Saturday nights. Also a lot of Thursday nights were at the Welding Works. It’s a miracle that I actually graduated. Those were the days. We have been married for 48 years now and those days back when we were in College were still the most fun. Good times indeed!!!

One night my Critz roommate and I hit the Southernaire Club to meet up with some W gals. The place was packed, but we found the ladies and partied until the place shut down. Unfortunately, our ride back to State had left the club without us and we were stranded. We staggered into the parking lot to find a ride but the lot was empty. It was about 40 degrees that night but we decided to hitchhike down 82 hoping to catch a ride. We got a ride alright as a crazy SOB in a convertible Mustang stopped and offered us a ride. We rode in that car all the way back to campus with the top down and the 8 track blasting. We made it back to Critz and laid in our beds frozen to the core. Good times, I think.

My first trip to the Club, Freshman year, I tried to parallel park on the left side of the driveway leading in. I was crooked, with a little too much of the rear of my Mustang sticking out. While I was inspecting my poor parking job, 2 or 3 guys hopped out of the truck behind me, picked up the rear of my car, and slid it into place. There were still 4 passengers in my car.

The women were too scared to go inside after that. I was thinking a couple of big dudes like that would be handy to have around.
