I think that was the EZ that Dana Moore kicked the game winner.

I was young at the time and did not realize until years later how big of a win that was. The thing that I remembered the most were the State fans stomping on the bleachers near the end of the game.

#7 punches it through from about 50 yards I think.

That's one of the 1st times I remember seeing us on TV.

I wonder how far behind we were in getting lights at Scott Field.

And...is there a D1 school that doesn't have lights. I want to say some big school doesn't for tradition. Michigan maybe? The Big Ten has something for day games.

I wasn't there. But I remember watching it and the FG.

I was there in '84 though. We beat them 16-14. They were throwing sugar during the game in anticipation of going to the Sugar Bowl.

If I remember correctly Ole Miss did not have lights until a few years after we did.

watching the tape 100 times growing up. One things I recall very vividly was the announcer yelling "this is what college football is all about!" That right after the field goal and the crowd going wild.

State should upload those old games (copywrite issues?) to their site so younger generations can appreciate times like that.

Those were some portable lights they brought in from Iowa for the game. The day before, I went over to Scott Field to see if I could talk to Al Michaels (he was working the game with Lee Grosscup). Somehow someway, I managed to get inside the stadium and actually met him. I had to ask him about the USA-USSR hockey game ("do you believe in Miracles?.....YES!"), and he told me that it was the greatest sports moment he ever saw. I told him to watch another great sports moment when we beat LSU the next night (really....I said that, but then again I was just a 20 year old dubmass college student).

Sure enough, when State played the next day John Bond got injured, and it was Tim Parenton who pretty much led the Bulldogs for most of the game. All the LSU fans had brought Sugar Packets to the game, and when Dana Moore hit the game-winning field goal and the students tore down the goal posts and paraded them in front of their fans, they were pelted with sugar packets/whiskey bottles.</p>

I lived in Hardy apartments right next to the stadium - it was a great PARTY weekend. Of coarse the Hardy Boys always were partying!

for the Auburn game? I thought we had lights before that. Maybe I'm thinking of 84 or 85.

The on campus games were for homecoming, etc and there was not much need. Finally, somebody got a clue about on campus facilities and we started upgrading. It was just the times, Alabama played most of their big games at Legion Field then also.

State beat LSU 16-14 on an Artie Cosby field goal with 1:15 remaining. The goal posts came down after LSU missed a 59 yard field goal attempt with 35 seconds remaining.
