the reason why I don't want to go to the NIT is due to the fact that South Carolina won that thing, I think twice in the past 7 years and they are still not hitting on anything. However I think it would go a long ways in helping Sidney become better. This is the first year in a long time that we are not talking NCAA or being on that bubble. Hell we are a bubble NIT team. Let's just win the SEC tourney.

Not to mention our recent run of 4 of the last 5 years with two Final Fours and maybe making it 5 of 6 years without it helping us crack the next level of getting to the dance.

I don't know that the NIT really does much to boost your program. Whether you can springboard or not has more to do with whatever you actually have the next year and whether your coach is worth a crap.

This team doesn't deserve to go to the NCAA Tournament in my opinion. What I said the other day I said because I thought going to the NCAA Tournament might allow our athletic department to not have to do anything about our current basketball situation, which is in chaos right now. There is a problem with the team.

I wasn't saying I didn't want us to win. I said I think going to the NCAA Tournament may cover up the fact this season and some of the players were completely out of control and represented this university very poorly. Something needs to be done about how this season played out. Staff changes, stricter enforcement ofrules, somethinglike that. I don't care how it happens, I just care about it getting fixed. I think we can all agree that this season was by far one of the more dissapointing all around since Stansbury has been the coach.

you see us play in a consolation tourney. We need to stay at the house til we havegrown up and quit acting like a bunch of lazy spoiled brats.

That gives us more time to get the returners on the court for practice and get RS and Bost to gel more. I compare the postseason in basketball to postseason in football-more time to practice, more playing time. We need it.

turn down an NIT bid. Duke turns down bids. Mississippi State doesn't. The NIT won't offer us for years to come if we act like were better than them. I think the NIT is becoming a pretty good 2nd tournament. There are so many teams in the NCAA now and the talent and parody is so much more widespread than 15-20 years ago that it's making the NIT stronger and stronger. I do think it gets harder and harder to make the NCAA every year that goes by because of all the small schools that have been improving their programs over time. We definately gladly accept an NIT bid.

There were a lot of teams on the bubble (us included) were snubbed from the NCAA partly because of upsets in other conference tournaments. All of the 1 seeds were on the bubble (VT was pretty much in the tournament. I think we were second in line behind them) throughout the final weeks of the season and tournament weekend. We definitely take an NIT bid. We would be stupid not to because if this team is as serious about playing together and getting better as they say they do, it is a great environment to do that.

came before they made their power move Spurrier-esque coaching find, poaching Darrin Horn from the Hilltoppers, where he'd taken them to (let me see here....) the NCAA tournament (crunches numbers) once (and I'll give him credit, his tourney record is 2-1), and the NIT twice in his 5 years there. But now the Gamecocks have an Eastern Division Championship!!! which led them to...an NIT bid.<div>
</div><div>Not sure what my original point was, but not doing something because somebody else couldn't maximize the opportunity it presented them seems lame.</div><div>
</div><div>Sometimes even making a run in the NCAA tournament doesn't translate into a program making it to the next level. Just wait, some senior-heavy "mid-major" led by a legit draft pick will make it to the Sweet 16, and then fall off the map next season.</div>

get bumped as regular season conference champions lose in their conference tournaments. I would say at this point, winning on Friday will likely be necessary.

Coach34, your link has to be a website run by middle schoolers. Heck your short lived website was better than this nitology site.

If North Carolina got a NIT invite at 15-15 last year I believe we will with 17 wins, plus the fact Stricklin and Stans have already put a bit in to host in the NIT. Not saying we will host, but I feel we will be invited. Some schools such as Arkansas are turning down the NIT.

We're not North Carolina. You've got to think they got more of a name recognition boost last year than we'll get this year.

I'm just pointing out we're not a lock for the NIT- I personally think if we lose Friday we wont get in.

Carolina's RPI and SOS were better last year when they were 15-15 than ours is right now. Thats why they got in

And we have no chance at hosting unless we win a couple

Turns out that Stansbury is actually 16-10 in his career in the SEC tourney he won two games in the 2000 1999 SEC tourney. </p>

The problem is, we aren't at that "elite" tier where UNC gets to be (Duke, Kentucky, even UCLA, even though they have hit some rough years). I think those teams could have losing overall records and still get an invite to the NIT. It provides some name recognition where people say, "Hey, North Carolina is playing tonight against Mississippi State" instead of "Hey, Bradley is playing against Mississippi Valley State." Big difference... and we aren't in that "elite" tier... I think we are more in the "middle of the pack" tier in a big name conference... the annoying teams in bigger conferences that occasionally spoil bigger school's seasons.
