Here's why I think we are a lock for the Gator Bowl...

Even if USCe beats Clemson, I think FSU will beat UF. Florida has played in the Outback Bowl and Gator Bowl the last two years. I think if this happens, South Carolina heads to the Outback and UF to the Chick Fil a Bowl. I hope I'm wrong b/c I want to play in ATL, it would be a great atmosphere.

re:

MIssouri losing to Syracse last night really hurt the number of SEC teams that will qualify for a bowl . If we beat Ole Miss and Texas Am beats Mizzou, no team in the SEC will go less than the MUsic City bowl. The Liberty, BBVA, and Independence will all have to pick outside the conference

After last night it looks like Bama could be on its way back to the champ game. This scenario would put GA in the sugar and FL in the Capitol One.

CBS Bowl Projections today has us in the Gator against Michigan State...that matchup seems to have been stabilizing last couple of weeks.

What about A&M and LSU?

One of those teams will go to the Cotton but that still leaves another team to fill a non-BCS slot. I don't think the SEC can get three teams in the BCS unless we have two teams playing each other in the Nat. Title game.

A&M to Cotton for a possible dream showdown against Texas and LSU to Outback would be my guess.

This would leave the Clemson question in Atlanta for either the Gator or Peach for MSU

And even then, the SEC could only get 3 in a BCS bowl if the conference champion was not 1 of the 2 teams in the national title game. In other words, no chance at all.

Michigan State is 5-6 right now ... not even bowl-qualified. They'll probably qualify by beating Minnesota, but the best team they've beaten is unranked Wisconsin. I don't see MSU at 9-3 playing a 6-6 team from a lower conference. May happen ... who knows, but it would be, I think, hard for our team to be up for a game like that. The Gator should be able to do better than a 6-6 team.

Two 6-6 teams played in it last year. Michigan was only 7-5 two years ago.

Also, 11-0 Ohio St. and 7-4 Penn St. are on probation. So everyone behind them moves up 2 spots in their bowls.

Clemson is all but assured to play in the Peach...so that eliminates SC from playing in it...keep that in mind

this is very simple

BCS ch'ip - alabama
sugar - LSU
citrus - georgia
cotton - TAM
outback - florida
peach - south carolina
gator - msu
music city - vandy
liberty - ole miss
birmingham - missouri

obviously the last two depend on what happens saturday and could be swapped. vandy is music city bound, duh. if clemson is assured of the peach, carolina could bump up ahead of florida if they beat clemson and florida loses to florida state. i guess i could see an outside shot of us going to the peach but 99 percent chance it's gator right now.

SC beats Clemson, they are likely Gator bound and we go to Atl...SC wont jump Fla

if SC beats Clemson and is 10-2......

and we are sitting at 9-3 or 8-4, plus florida loses to fall to 10-2, i could absolutely see the outback taking carolina and another state's money. and in that case, the peach takes florida over msu all day every day.

moot point if clemson wins in my opinion. i guess that's what we should hope for.

Depends in there's a BCS at large spot left for them:

1 Notre Dame
2 SEC
2 Pac 12 (Stanford auto, Oregon at large)
1 Big 12 (Kansas State?)
1 Big 10
1 Big East
1 ACC

That leaves 1 more at large to pick between a second Big 12 team and Clemson. There won't be a non-AQ, and no Big 10 or Big East team has a shot at an at large.

Nobody gets bumped up. The bowls have a selection order. They pick who they want. The outback bowl won't pass on Florida. The Music City doesnt want Vandy because they want to fill hotels... Duh.

It may be a great atmosphere and all but I'd prefer the Gator bowl every time. I don't really have the obsession with the ChxfilletBowl that others have

To me, it sounds much better to say that we've been to a New Year's Bowl - a meaningful NYD Bowl - two out of the last three years than not. The Gator Bowl is game that has a lot of history behind it. It was one of the first (eight) bowl games before 1950.

But I know, the CFAB pays more money and ATL is a lot closer and more familiar than Jacksonville.

And you usually play better competition and don't have to worry about sharing a time slot with other conference rival's bowl games?

I don't think it matters about the payout. The SEC adds it up and divides by 14.

In all honesty Id rather us play in ATL because they have better gifts for our players.

And it's a nicer venue with a controlled climate ... better for players and fans. You don't have to worry about snow in Jacksonville, but a cold rain isn't out of the question. Of course, football is supposed to be played outdoors (just ask the folks in Green Bay), but I'm old and like the comfort. And Atlanta is pretty close to me. I'd rather go to Atlanta basically for selfish reasons.

It's not quite that simple. Depending on which bowl a school goes to they keep a varying amount up front and then the rest goes into the pot and it divided 14 ways. It does make a difference which bowl you go to, just not as much as the difference between the payouts for each bol.
