...haven't seen your thoughts on the game, and do you still think Relf should get the majority of the snaps? Just curious.

Lee's physical limitations lost the game for us as much as anything.

Relf is a good athlete, we need him on the field, if he can't be quarterback, make him a tight end or something, but put him out there to help us. But the only way he can improve as a quarterback is if he gets the overwhelming majority of reps in practice and the majority of plays in the games. Otherwise, we are just treading water with him and hoping somebody will come in next year to save us. Again, if he is so unable to grasp the playbook, then switch him to a different position today, otherwise, put the better athlete on the field. Where Lee was tackled on fourth down, Relf's entire upper body would have been in the endzone.

we don't have enough pure athletes on the team to be letting someone with Relf's size and ability to sit on the bench. we need him in the game. i don't care if we put them both back there. yeah it would be retarded but not much more retarded than lee not being able to see downfield.

/i know we won't put two QBs in at the same time. just making a point, even though i probably did this badly

but to assume Relf's lack of grey matter is the reason his prototypical bruiser physique is watching. It appears that 90% of the playbook disappears when his *** is in there.

Still, there's no reason why he shouldn't be in there on 3rd and 4th down.

as defensive coordinator for the 1993 Powder Puff game. Much as Coach Yost in Remember the Titans, I blitzed all night.

If Relf plays 50-60% of that game, we probably lose by 14+. If Relf plays the four plays inside the two, we probably win.

I don't think Relf is that great of an athlete and I really don't think he is versatile enough to play another position. Even if he could be a servicable TE, we still need a backup QB other than Russell.

i mean bumphis is a playmaker... if relf was in la la land we have got to come up with another option... if i ever see lee on the 1 aGAIN on 3rd or 4th down i am closing my eyes... this is scarier than a crxxm ran xffense

it was a team sport and the team got the loss, not Lee. His physical limitations had nothing to do with yielding a 93 yard punt return or allowing Brandon LaFell to stroll through our secondary all day long.

South Panola Dawg brought up on Bulldawg Junction. What's our plan if Cam Newton doesn't come here? It's Relf and Russell next year. So we'll have two quarterbacks who have never started going for us.

Bottom line, Lee was 15 for 38, 172 yards and 3 picks. Good Lord, how much worse could it have been? Am I really supposed to believe Relf would have been 6 for 38, 77 yards and 6 picks?

despite all that, and when the time came, Lee couldn't make the plays to win. Hell, physical limitations aside, his mental screwup of not reading the play correctly and not pitching to Dixon on fourth down killed us. I thought he was the smart one?

Makes perfect sense to me. I do agree that Relf needs to play more than he did Saturday, but having him take most of the snaps would be a disaster. At least teams have to respect our passing game a little with Lee in the game.

although i agree he needs to be on the field as much as possible in some capacity i don't think he would have done much better than lee. i do think he scores that damn TD though.

the 5.8 YPA Tyson is averaging commands great respect by defensive coordinators throughout the league.

if you believe this.....

i don't think he would have done much better than lee
and you think the performances would be about equal, why wouldn't you go with the guy who actually looks like a college football player? What is that Lee is bringing us that makes him so much better? His stats are terrible. What am I missing?

there's not as much untapped potential as you think there. This is a guy that doesn't understand the QB position. He played in the Wing T in high school. He had no division 1 offers. He was a Croom QB recruit for goodness sake. It's amazing what Mullen has been able to do with him as far as making him servicable. But when Relf is in the game, there's virutally no threat of a pass. He has a strong arm, but our receivers aren't good enough to get open on the deep ball so it's much better to have an accurate QB on the short throws.

In Lee's defense, 1 pick hit Ducre in the hands, another he under-threw, but Wilder didn't play the ball and the 3rd INT was on a 4th down play and actually helped us.

Making the play and getting the first down.

I love this idea of Lee as hyper-accurate. He's completing right at 50 percent for the year, good for 108th in the NCAA. He's right ahead of some guy named Jevan Snead. Never mind that Snead is almost 2 yards per attempt better. Lee isn't even accurate as a dink and dunker.

Exactly, it drove me crazy to see Relf come in the game and hand it off 2 plays in a row. It just brings more defenders in the box and we end up in 3rd and long with an a QB who lacks accuracy.

I'm not going to defend Tyson for the 4th down play, but he actually runs the option pretty well. He made a nice run against Vandy and another nice run against LSU when he pulled it out and ran around the left end.

I'm wondering if the reason we ain't going to see TRussell this year being that Mullen is confident he gets Newton.

The QB position is probably the biggest liabilty on the team along with our corners. You know I think that. But if you think Relf is the answer, either this year or in the future, then I can't help you.

I agree that if we don't land Newton, which is a real possibility, then we are in trouble. But I think we will go with Russell and adjust the play calling.

we'll come full circle to what I said at the beginning of the season, and that's we need to play Russell now. Otherwise, it's just a built in excuse for next year. Get him some meaningful snaps starting this week, and then he begins to take over, probably starting by MTSU.

but I think the true answer is that Mullen, unlike Croom, does care about the program 5 years from now.

Russell needs a full year in weightroom to avoid injury and he needs a spring practice to get some reps. Mullen said Russell might have played this year if he went through spring ball. He was just too far behind Tyson to warrant burning the redshirt.

You can see my other post about this, but I think it goes back to getting a hopefully very strong 5th year out of Russell in 2013 vs a rough year this season.

We are already 4 games into this season and Tyson has proved servicable enough. The strength of this team, no matter the QB, lies in the run game. I'm surprised you think we should burn Russell's redshirt at this point. I expect QB recruiting to improve with Mullen, but we are M-State. It's not every day we get a blue-chip prospect. We can't afford to throw away a year of eligibilty.</p>

Relf was hurt.

Mullen said Lee did really well at pre-snap reads and getting us into the right play. That's gotta be worth a lot. And a hat tip toward what you are saying.

...Are you still conceding the season after that effort? We have an outside shot at a bowl, which would be huge for our program. Additionally, Relf on 3rd and 8 is basically an automatic punt. I do think he should be our goalline qb.

I honestly believe Relf gives us a better chance to win. I know he can make more plays with his feet, and his passing can't be that much worse. Lee is the 108th rated quarterback in both efficiency and completion percentage. He averages less than 6 yards per attempt. How much freaking worse can it get?

Did you see the pick 6 vs Auburn?

Also, against LSU we rolled Lee out on several passing plays to slow down the rush. Relf throwing on the move equals not a pretty picture.

Do me a favor and post Tyson's stats 3 weeks from now. They will be much better. He has played 3 tough defenses and didn't get the benefit of playing the 2nd half vs Jackson State.

I think Relf will be buried down the depth chart next year. If we get Newton, it will be Newton, Russell, and Stegal. If we dont' get Newton, it will be Russell, Stegal, Relf.

Oh it can happen. Just ask the new short skinny guy with a kickin grille at Henig furs if it can happen. Now the question is... would he leave the field in tears afterward?

Lee can make a few of the throws. Relf can make none of them. OK, so he's taller. That's about all he's got going for him. HD6, just out of curiosity, did you actually watch Relf throw in the Vandy game? He couldn't hit the ground if he aimed at it.

Honestly, they both suck, but I feel confident that Mullen will actually go out and find someone/develop someone unlike the Walrus.

I just know that Relf is not good and I've heard that the coaches really like what they're seeing in Stegal so far.
