My old alma mater (Calhoun City) won a squeaker against East Webster 23-21 (and I know this ain't 5A football but I did play for Mike Justice at CC).

On the one hand, it's always good when Wayne Co. loses. On the other hand, it would have been real nice to end their season next week for the 3rd time in 4 years. You're right, West Jones is much better than either of those teams. I'm more worried about Vancleave tonight than either of those teams (and I'm not really worried about Vancleave).

...instead of taking a knee, they scored another touchdown. Nick Griffith then proceeded to spike one of the Olive Branch players with the football after the score. There was a bench-clearing melee', and the officials just called the game.

Regardless of when SP scored the last touchdown, class would have been being the bigger person and taking it in stride.
The game was heated all along. There were several SP big plays called back and tempers had flared the whole game.
When SP scored near the end of the game, Olive Branch players came out of their head gear and wanted to fight. SP players didn't try to fight back. OB's coaching staff did nothing to control their players and kind of instigated it.
The officials called the game and canceled the post game handshake. Officers escorted SP back to the locker room while OB stayed on field to cry about it. Ask someone who was there. Anyone who thinks OB wouldn't have tried to score if the situations were reversed knows very little about this one sided rivalry.
Let me add...they didn't REALLY want to fight.

It was back and forth all night with smack talking and chippy playing. The "fight" that ended the game was all OB.
But I'm not real ashamed that MC can't beat them- no one else can either.
What really sucks is that I think had MC and Ridgeland not split, I think an old combined MC could beat them. For all of the "Madison just keeps Flora around so that they can stay good in football" conspiracy theorists, Madison County split off an undefeated 5A team from MC, and would no doubt be a lot better than they are now.
Of course, the school would look like a massive refugee trailer park because there would be nowhere to put the other 800+ students.
