Not really picking on you directly - but a good place to respond. Most people are going to go into halftime shows expecting mindless entertainment. If you were expecting Shakira to shake her *** or Hank Jr sing "Are you ready for some football", you really aren't going to be in the frame of mind to pick up on an entertainer known for all sorts of deeper meanings in his music and performances. The people that picked up on it were waiting for it. The people that were there for shallower stuff didn't. Hell, I like Kendrick a lot and I really wasn't in the mood to think too hard bc it's the damn Super Bowl and time for me to zone out. I was bored with it real time.

But maybe the retrospective look back was the point and he got his message across the way he intended: "oh you mean Uncle Sam and the flag imagery wasn't patriotic?!? [rabble rabble rabble]"
I hear ya. Maybe so. Like you, I just really don't want to think that hard during the SB.

I'm sure I'll hear from others shortly on just how lowbrow I am.

Funny you mentioned The Weeknd. He was the halftime show in 2021.
I got on amazon music and I recognized Blinding lights. Kind of like it just because it's different; has an 80's feel to it to me.

Seeing you and Dorn list some prior performers, it made me realize just how checked out of the superbowl and the halftime show I have been. I remember 50 cent looking like a dollar bill, but that show was tailor made for me and I actually planned on watching it. I remember the Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake show. I remember the year after that I think they went with the rolling stones? Definitely was an older band geared towards the older audience and intended to be safe. I remember the discussion about JLo and Shakira booty shaking and JLo being 50+ and still showing ***, but I don't think I watched it. That's all I got.

Generally the superbowl parties I am at the actual game is just on in the background. People pay attention off and on and really pay attention at the end of each quarter if one of their squares is in play. We're old enough now that the women don't even watch the half time show like they used to.

When did the NFL boycott end? I can't keep up. Do we have their opinions on the bud light commercial yet or are they still confused by the hippity hop?
Remind me....are they still kneeling during the anthem? Not that they don't totally have the right to kneel but it seems to have lost its luster huh?

No one has kneeled in 3 maybe 4 years. When was the last time you watched a game?

No clue. I'm usually not watching pregame. And when I do - I direct my own reverence to where it should be and don't really pay attention to the noise I don't care to control.

That's the point. Some people (not myself) claimed they were boycotting because all the woke stuff being promoted by the NFL. Most of that freedom of expression is gone. Is there a correlation who knows but to some they may feel justified to watch again. I never left although being a tortured Cowboys fan some days I sure wish I would have ****

I mean taking exception with a narcissist felon who has a general disdain for our constitution and laws feels different to me than boycotting Bud Light over some transgender offense, but maybe both are equally harmful to the nation?

I think increased betting had a lot to do with increased views.
Probably is some of it. Also they’ve started counting the audience differently.

“The early data projects 14.5 million watched on streaming platforms, including 13.6 million on Tubi, where the game was available for free.

Some of the increase can be attributed to a change in the way viewers are counted. This is the first year Nielsen is measuring out-of-home viewers for all states but Hawaii and Alaska.
It was previously the top 44 media markets, which covered 65% of the country.
The ratings also include Nielsen data from smart TVs along with cable and satellite set-top boxes.
After two straight years of close Super Bowls, Sunday's game was decided in the first half as Philadelphia built a 24-0 lead.”

I shut off the game at half time before the show. I had no plans to watch it anyway since I haven't watched one since boobgate. The KC offensive line was so overmatched and the Philly defense was disciplined and did not rush past Mahomes it didn't matter what the rest of the offense tried.

I wondered how may people didn't watch the second half since it was already a blowout. Or didn't watch halftime either.
Add 1st half to that question and I'll raise my hand. I did enjoy the highlights on YouTube though, a whole lot!

It was sarcasm because it's all that post seemed to deserve.

The weird flex is seeing a comment about how SPS boycotting the halftime show is as effective as the Outback boycott, and deciding to respond by bringing up some failed chicfila boycott as a gotcha.
So you thought the "outback" comment was somehow a great point, but the CFA comment was a weak attempt at a gotcha? Jesus.

The first comment was creative, so I gave a little thumbs up.
You then took the boycott reference and ran with it out of some version of pettiness/spite/gotcha motivation, which is lame.

Think of it as you being the player who shoves in retaliation and gets flagged for it.

I took it as humor and pointing out every side has pearl clutchers. Relax and laugh. Or rollerblade on by.

It wasn't me. But I took the CFA comment as "both sides do stupid boycotts". Which I agree with.

All the pregame, halftime, and postgame S h ! t is so overproduced. And FOX Sports is the worst at it.

Just want to see the game and the hopefully a Super Bowl commercial that makes me chuckle at least.

I wish to effin Uncle Sam they'd cut out the national anthem at sporting events and all the other faux patriotic B.S. Anybody wanna guess what it cost us in tax dollars to do flyovers ?? - which I've seen them do for high school games in GA.

That stuff should only be used for official occasions. 90% of Americans couldn't stand in reverent attention for 15 seconds and likely 95% don't even know the words to our national anthem.

133.5MM viewers for the halftime show would indicate this Sixpack boycott was as effectIve as that Outback boycott.
I guess I screwed up by leaving my TV on the Super Bowl during halftime but with it muted. If warranted next year, will try to do better at protesting by making sure I switch channels. And it probably will be since apparently the only halftime entertainment allowed at the Super Bowl at this point is the Rap/Urban/Hiphop genre.

I wouldn't personally choose rap for the halftime entertainment, but with the way some folks are STILL carrying on over it I wish they'd sprung C-Murder from Angola and told him to let 'er rip

I guarantee it’s going to be rap for the foreseeable future with the ratings they got.
