Watched the UConn Syracuse game tonight and in the beginning they mentioned that Hines wasn't starting and was not in Danny Hurley shape . That's 2 colleg coaches that mentioned Hines' lack of conditioning.

Despite I thought Hines played a nice game.
Couple of UCONN fans said he is already noticeably slimmer than last year even if not yet in the shape Hurley demands.
He had 20 & 8. He’s going to be real good.
He’s a stud. Was our second best player last year. When you consider that he’s a sophomore, was a local kid (granted came up here from NC late in HS), committed to us early (and we took him with the re-class), this is easily the most difficult player we’ve lose from a fan perspective. Much more so than Samuels, Dre, Kadary and even Clark.

I watched his highlights and he does look to be in far better shape. Also looks to be better coached already. He's going to be a force at UConn. Seems destined to be a 1st round NBA pick - just a question of how long will it take.

He’s in noticeably better shape than he was with us. Even has some new ugly arm tattoos.

He was excellent from the FT line, about half his points were from there.

Hines is NBA bound - no questions asked.

Also, Hurley said he was the most impressive player on the court last night.
Saint Danny was forced to say that though post-game. He didn't want to and he felt bad about doing so.

I posted this last year that Pirate fans who are friends of mine went to road game and sat directly behind the bench, They heard him ask out of games due to exhaustion.

He was not in BB shape last year and we never saw his best. Now he has had an offseason to get into BB shape and when he does, watch out.

Never miss an opportunity to shoehorn in a St Danny comment or Pitino defense/compliment.

Words to live by.
Wrong, again, but let's keep up with another year of the trolling.

If after Pitino took Richmond from us he gave that "holier than thou" speech that Hurley gave on Big East media day, he would have been eviscerated by this board. And for good reason. That would have been absurd, just like it was absurd for those last March/April to proclaim Saint Danny would never, ever take a Hall transfer of any skill, especially Hines when I was posting here repeatedly that it was going to happen because I knew there had already been reach out during the season.

I've posted many, many times here that I'm a huge fan of Dan Hurley the coach, despite his antics that would make many of you batty if another coach did it. He's the best coach in the sport in my opinion. His personal story is a compelling one. And I think there's a special place for his Dad in heaven, even though many connected to the hoops scene did not/do not like him (having read and watched stuff about the man for decades, I think he's a saint).

You can't see through that obviously because you aren't able to be objective about this topic and you aren't alone as we saw in another thread when talking about Hines being stolen from us. The difference is many on this board is able to be objective about all Big East schools and coaches (including Uconn/Hurley) except for one, and because of that lack of objectivity, it leads to this trolling BS.

That is an important distinction. Players improve their conditioning and make improvements in the offseason and Sha did not have an offseason with Hines. He showed up in late August with a lot of extra weight and despite his immense physical talent was never in top form with Sha.

Sha is at a major disadvantage by not being able to keep players from one year to the next. Every summer, Sha has 10+ new players including almost all new starters. This is a terrible way to build a team, he spends so much time getting players acclimated to the physicality, intensity and defensive system he expects. If he could bring back a core of key players, he could concentrate more on skill development and offensive concepts/teamwork.

You are projecting.
I am plenty objective about Seton Hall and the program. I am also a fan.
Pitino is a great coach.
You may think Danny is a great coach but in your desire to support Pitino, you have come up with the St Danny bit. That is fine.

You are very knowledgeable and we agree about a lot of on court and program topics. But, my statement is correct. You shoehorn a Pitino comment into alot of threads, painfully so.

Look you want to fix, get everyone to donate their pension and 401k and other wealth management plans...will get a great shot at elite 8....in these case while hines and budd got market value elsewhere there were not that valuable to remain for what they asked

Yea I disagree. I respond to posts about every coach and program, by and large. There is one that seems to live rent free and drives a level of animosity and insanity among folks for whatever reason, with the accompanying nonsense and trolling. Hence why another one of our great posters coined the term #PDS. If folks on this board said crazy stuff about Ed Cooley, it would be exactly the same from my perspective. I offer opinions on everyone; it’s only when I do it about one HC that it bothers people.

Also “Saint Danny” was coined because of his holier than thou stuff which is plainly BS. About 5th year players. About Euros/older players. The notion he would never take an Hall transfer (which we know now was crazy). And that absurd stuff from media day re: Hines. Which I know is false.

Again, if another coach said that - and one in particular - we would have separate threads about it and a litany of folks losing their mind. Including you. All we need to do is look back at Kadary’s last year for 5,000 examples.

Money isn't the only reason why we never keep anyone for Year 2. Sha has to look at what he's doing honestly. Other teams with money issues can keep a key player or 2. The only player of substance we've ever kept since Free Agency was Wusu.

And the money is not solely about donations anymore. The school can choose to spend money if it wants, the school can choose to solicit corporate money in a serious manner. Hire people to do this work. Xavier went from a $5M budget to $15M budget in 1 year without significantly adding large individual donors. They determined that basketball success was important enough to the University and decided to spend like a real Big East team. Seton Hall could choose to do that if they wish.

There is nothing in the DNA or history of the BOR or university leadership that would expect this to happen.
