Had nerve surgery on his arm and redshirted this year. Interesting. Will be a Soph in 2015.

Am I crazy or is he going to be the starting CF next year?

I may have him confused with someone else but I think he was pretty heavily recruited. So, I would hope at some point he eventually makes a contribution.

There must not have been many good recruits coming out of Canada that year is all I am saying. He showed me absolutely nothing to make me think he is SEC caliber talented. Maybe I'm wrong and I hope he proves it. But he's got to get a lot better to make any impact

Robson is extremely talented, and it's great to hear he's probably coming back next year.

While he hasn't shown all that much yet, remember that he was only 17-18 when he played as a freshman. And this year he was playing through an apparently pretty major nerve issue. With Bradford leaving, Robson's probably the best defender we'll have in center next season- and if he can just stop striking out so much, his offense should be solid as well.

Robson hasn't shown much on the field here yet- but he's a pretty damn elite talent in center.

He definitely has the wheels to play CF, but it's going to come down to whether or not he can hit or just get on base. Cody Brown and Vickerson will be the main competition for that spot.

Looking at who is returning next year, our OF has the potential to be very good. Brown, Robson, and Vickerson all have the speed to play anywhere in the outfield; obviously starting time will come down to which guy isn't getting it done at the plate. Joey Swinarski has the skill to start at RF as a redshirt freshman; that kid is going to be a superstar hitter in the SEC, and his defense ain't half bad either.

according to the roster, we have 5 potential returning players in the OF position (not including incoming freshmen).

Brown (RSo.)
Rooker (So.) redshirt this year?
Robson (RSo.) redshirt this year?
Swinarski (So.) redshirt this year?
Vickerson (Sr.)

I've seen people post on here that Humphreys and Garner could both play of too. Humphreys seems like a good enough athlete but I'm not sure on garner, especially if we'd have him and hump both out there and neither being true fielders. And what about vallot? Is he a good enough athlete where we could put him there since Collins is a very good player for us, or maybe him and Collins alternate between catching and dh.

The talk seems to be that Vallot might not make it to campus. I think it's pretty likely we need a 1B and 3B next year as well.

I agree.. this is tougher to figure out than the OF situation. Dylan Ingram is the only listed 1B guy we have. Trent Waddell (commit coming from EMCC) is also a 1B

I think it's pretty likely we need a 1B and 3B next year as well.

Rea is a junior, right? I don't see him leaving early, but if he does, hopefully Garner can take over there (to get his bat in the lineup), with Humphreys at 3B.

I agree. If you have any aspirations at pro ball at all, you almost have to go after your jr season if you're projected to be drafted at all. Not sure where, or if, Rea would be projected in the draft. I would think anywhere from the 20th round to undrafted. Not a lot of room for a big, slow 1B with little power and a mediocre average to move up in the pro ranks.

At the same time, I think some intense one-on-one next level training he'll be sure to get in the minors could go a long way for Rea. He's shown he has at least DH skills, but they come and go sometimes even in the same game.

I say that because there's probably ONE team out there with a scout who thinks they can help Rea turn the corner. How many 6'5" 270lbs former D1 captains are there out there? What's his face, the backup 3B/pitcher from last year, if he can get drafted in the 21st round, Rea can get drafted in the 21st round.

I hope he stays. I don't think he'd see a difference in signing bonuses or anything if he does, and I think he can play summer ball somewhere and hopefully figure things out. We've all seen it done a time or two.

You think Britton is gone? I think what likely happens next year is Garner picks up 1B, Britton at 3rd and Hump to the OF. I think Collins stays at catcher.

I really think that's just an even stronger argument for him to go pro. At his age, he really needs to get in the pro program and work on developing his hitting skills for a lot longer than 20 hours per week and only certain weeks during the fall at that.

No, Britton return, which suddenly is a big aspect of next years team. I agree with how you think it'll play out.

Makes sense to move Walker or Randolph too.

Humphreys could potentially move out there but Garner has been moved to 1B.

No argument here. Hope he stays for selfish reasons.

I had heard several times from multiple sources that he was injured and not playing this year, but never heard the details regarding the nature of the injury. This was told to me when I asked whether he might transfer, and the explanation was to show that he wasn't playing due to injury not coach's decision.

I actually have more hope for him knowing he had this issue. I had pretty much written him off because I didn't understand why he was a significantly worse hitter this year than last and had basically become a strike out machine before his playing time completely faded out. Maybe if he gets this corrected he MIGHT be able to hit at a level that could warrant him competing for the CF spot next year. The only OF for next year that I feel reasonably comfortable about starting next year is Cody Brown. The rest is a crap shoot. I've thought for a while now that our starting OF next year could potentially be the weakest Cohen has ever had. Based on this year Brown is a decent hitter, Vickerson is weak and Robson even weaker. Guys like Swinarski and Rooker have never played so who knows. Losing Bradford, Henderson and Armstrong will definitely hurt unless some guys really step up their game.
