I saw the CBS crew Saturday almost to a man picked Bama to win the SEC and be back in the title game- but nobody in the SEC goes undefeated this year

We might not have a chance if we played later in the season, but I think Newton will be a little wide-eyed against us on Thursday night in Starkville for his first SEC game. Couple that with a struggling defense that is going to need a couple of games to gel, and we may be able to pull that one off.

I have Auburn losing to us and Bama...when you play all your big games at home (except State and Bama) like they do, your going to have a good season

Auburn is having their own defensive problems. Chizik may be a defensive guy but I have not heard anyone speaking very highly of the current Auburn DC. Of course if we give up 40 points to Auburn's offense like last year it won't really matter how their defense plays against us.

That's actually hard to imagine. I think you may be right but it's a weird thought, not having an SEC team competing for the BCS Nat'l. Title. Grown used to having a team that's all but a shoo-in each year.

Your practices should be pretty balanced, even if one unit is ahead of the other. Both squads pretty much know what the other is doing and how to make some big plays. That's what I am liking about our practice reports. I hear offense breaks big plays, defense has big plays. If the defense is dominating, your offense won't be worth a damn. If the offense is dominating, you better hope they can keep it up, 'cause your D isn't going to help you any.

The key to the Auburn game is going to be our D creating turnovers. If we can pressure Newton into making bad decisions and giving us the ball back, we have a shot. From what we've heard, Diaz's defense might be able to do that for us. We should see a lot of nickle and 4 corner backfields, which will help with the lack of depth at LB.

Offensively, I would make sure nobody goes out of bounds unless they get picked up and carried out. We need to dominate time of possession, but we can't afford to just sit on the ball and let the D rest. I would like to say that Relf could have 100+ rushing in this one, but their experience defending a spread option may come into play.

They gave up almost 30 points per game last year and they lost 5 of their last 6 I-A regular season games. No way they win the West.

They played their best game in the last game of the year (against their rival). That is the taste of the team that everyone has going into the off-season. Couple that with a supposed stud JUCO transfer that's a "perfect fit" for their offense, and there you go--high expectations.

Thereciprocal is true as well with many teams like Ole Miss and LSU who went into the offseason leaving a stinky taste in many experts mouth. Subtract a few key players off of those teams and all of a sudden the sky is falling.

Truth is, Auburn will be improved over last year, but not vastly. Their schedule may allow them to improve from 7-5 to 9-3. MSU will be improved over last year, but not vastly. MSU's schedule may prevent you from seeing the improvement in terms of W's and L's. Ole Miss and LSU will slide back from last year, but not by too much. OM's schedule may prevent you from seeing a slide in terms of W's and L's, while LSU's schedule will probably have them sliding from 9-3 to 7-5.

But living in Mobile, you would think the Iron bowl is going to be between two undefeated teams.

I thought AU was ok last year, but I certainly didn't think they had the talent level of LSU or Bama. I thought Upig would be ahead of them this year, but I listened to Ivan Maisel say they were preseason #11 in his top 25.

road games are at State, Mississippi, Kentucky, and of course, T-Town- if you are wanting to make some noise, thats a pretty good SEC schedule to have

I think they'll lose to UGA and Bama for sure, and could easily lose to any of OM, MSU, Ark, LSU or USC. No doubt the schedule is in their favor, but if they lose 1 or 2 of those at home (and are bad enough to do so), then all of a sudden the games at OM, MSU and Bama look mighty tough.

That's not a prediction, it just wouldn't surprise me.

I think Bama wins the west. I have no clue on second through sixth. I could make a case for all five teams.

Bama is still a step ahead- but they are vulnerable this year....

and where 2-6 finishes is a complete mystery...I gave Auburn the edge because of schedule...I dont think they are any better than LSU or Arkansas- but they have the biggest games at home- and thats a big, big plus...they will have to play big in Starkville and Oxford...makes for an interesting year

The Pigs will be ridiculously good on offense. Their defense will be better but with the offense putting 30+ per game. Their defense doesn't have to be great. Their schedule is favorable. I see only one game that I believe they will probably lose.......to Bama. The rest of their schedule, I think they have a good chance. Maybe on the road at UGA is a loss....but UGA could have a let down coming off the USC game..... that is a toss up. I believe Bama has the only defense that can slow them down. They will smoke LSU in Mallet's last game in Little Rock. Bama wins the SECW crown because of the head to head tie breaker as I don't see Bama losing two.

It is going to be a long year on the island of Rkansas and for those State fans in Columbus, <span style="text-decoration:line-through">MS</span> AL
