I had figured on a redshirt year for Hoak; that's probably not going to happen now. It's not likely that we go with only two scholarship QBs.

So, if Hoak is not going to redshirt, he should get a chance to start, if he's the best quarterback we have. As a true freshman, it's not likely to be the case, but, if it is, he should play.

Only needed one quarterback last year. Only two this year. It's very rare you need more than that. You can let him compete like Barker did last year. Then redshirt if he doesn't make it.

I'm still thinking Phillips transfers. If true it's because Stoops has so badly mismanaged his QB situation.

Here's the silver lining, if there is one in all of this. At least now we know with a fair amount of certainty that Barker is the guy going into Spring. He will be getting most all of the starters reps from day one moving forward. None of the QB competition that takes up all of spring and half of the summer. It's Barkers job now and it's on him to make the most of it and not get complacent. hopefully he's matured beyond the off the field antics that didn't shed a favorable light on him earlier.

Guys
I am more concerned that our new OC Dawson virtually hand picked this guy as his heir apparent and they did not go after more highly recruited and rated guys. I have seen a few bits and pieces of film on this kid and I will only say he is a project that is a few years away. He has some talent and potential but he is going to be a project of some sort.

Makes me worry if we do decide to get another OC, the kid from Fla looks like a better prospect that we have committed for 17.

You've seen a few bits and pieces and know he's a project? You must be a tremendous talent evaluator.

He's is a duel threat qb ,like the one who beat us yesterday, he may be the starter

He is? I thought he was a statue in the vids that I've seen of him. If you look at his stats this year, they're not that impressive.

Staff went hard after Austin Kendall and Messiah DeWeaver, we had a really good shot at Kendall until Oklahoma came crawling into recruitment. Some thought he was even going to commit, then he visited Oklahoma and they swayed him. Hoak was always interested in UK, and by far his best offer.

This is the problem dead on...Hoak and Mac Jones are less raw talented than Towles/Barker. Hoak's best offer was Cincy outside of UK's (others were Buffalo, Kent St, Toledo, Bowling Green). He is a slender kid with not an elite arm and isn't a threat at all with his feet.

We can all debate accuracy and field vision...but as HS QBs go...it's extremely hard to project that to college level given the difference in speed of the game.

What were his stats this past year? Should of had a big year with him being a senior and a commit to play QB for a SEC school.

Isn't there a walk on QB from Trinity or St. X or one of those Louisville power houses on the roster. Obviously he RSed this season, could he provide any decent QB play ?

I just looked him up Davis Mattingly from Male HS, a preferred walk on, he is 6'4 and 225 lbs. Male is the best HS team in the state this year, and he was their QB last year....hummm

Mattingly is pretty good! Very accurate. with a top flight arm. Threw it a lot in high school.

I'm no longer interested in high QB rankings, and am especially tired of big armed qb's that can "throw it through a wall" and can "make all the throws". Accuracy. It's all that matters. Give me a Dusty Bonner who can't throw it more than 45 yards but is accurate (and, bonus if poised). I'd be content.....

You have one. His name is Reese Phillips. He is the most accurate passer on the team.

Yep. Stoops has mismanaged this program from the begenning.

Max Smith and Jalen Whitlow couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and Stoops actually says "Reese Phillips does the most efficient job of operating our offense" and then......redshirts him and never plays him.

I don't care of Phillips can only throw 10 yards at a time. He can actually hit guys in the numbers, which is what counts.

Not saying that he ain't but now the guy who hasn't played a down yet is the best QB. This game never stops.

No no lol. Im not saying he is at all, im sure Towles and Barker have advanced past him at this point.

Just pointing out that at one point the HC said he was the best QB on the team (in 13) and still benched him.
