I think Mendenhall saw the the writing on the wall. He would have been one of coaches listed on the "hot seat" next year, and deservingly so.As an ETSU Buccaneer graduate I have no dog in the Hokies pick for coach.
What I do think is that it was an awesome hire and will serve Virginia Tech well.
I wonder who the 'Hoos will name as HC...I certainly hope it isn't our HC, Randy Sanders.
I think there's a "between the lines" message in Bronco's departure "speech". UVA has no interest in taking their program to the next level and Bronco is just casually walking away without throwing a giant pile of rocks. I find it interesting that Whit sought a Beamer Ball protege to bring back to Blacksburg. Makes me wonder if the boosters leaned on him a little bit. Penn States defense has been pretty good. The real test is going to be the recovery in the recruiting world. Fuentes dumped VA, more or less, and it cost him.
