Holgorsen: "I'm failing at my job"

by Greg Madia

On Thursday night, the dreaded month of October ended with a fourth consecutive loss to a ranked conference opponent for West Virginia. [details]

High-fiving the opposing QB after he has made your team looks stupid is like slapping Hitler on the back after he gasses another thousand Jews. Some things you just know not to do. No coach that has any prep work does something so incredibly stupid as to celebrate his own teams defeat in front of them!

Dumbest analogy in the history of analogies.

May have been a bad analogy, however he's right. High fiving the opposing team's QB after making our defense look foolish, that just doesn't happen nor should it happen. After the game, during the post-game handshakes, that's where that stuff happens.

People act like Holgorsen ran out onto the field and sought out Boykin to give him a high five. How exactly did that whole thing transpire? Didn't Boykin initiate it? Didn't even the announcers acknowledge after that play that what Boykin was doing with his feet was just "stupid"?

Anyone who compares a football team and one of its key players to Adolph Hitler and the Nazi's should be banned from posting on a board like this.

I'm not trying to be dramatic. But you should seek professional help.

WV has a very high level of neurotic/stressful behavior. And I do not think there will be inroads made into this problem until people start holding their West Virginia neighbors accountable for their over the top take on things.

This is way beyond appropriate. You need someone to help you sort things out.

You have a pathetic person. I joke as much as anyone, but you are a sad person. Perspective. Comparing any part of a trivial sporting event to the holocaust is beyond stupid.

You're ignored from here on out.

It's better than the old "haven't forgotten how to coach," taunts cocky, young, in-your-face Dana used to sneer following failures.

If back then he had realized the problem had nothing to do with forgetting and everything to do with what he and his assistants hadn't yet learned, he might have tried to learn the obvious lessons those failures should have taught someone in his position. It's probably too late now.

I'm only an outsider visiting this message board today. First thing, I'm not a Dana fan or a hatter. But as a Sports fan in general. I saw that play to on tv. I can see why some on here may not like it. But the Boykin story that ran before the game and the way, he was playing was unreal at the time. Dana is a fierce competitor as anyone. But considering what Boykin was doing on and off the field and the emotions of the game. I would give Dana a pass and say it showed some class on Television.
"Please note as, I said I'm not a fan or hatter of Dana. But I'm just commenting on that one play it was not as horrific as some might think. I've witnessed in other Sports and even in Football where other coaches have done more or less the same thing during a game.

He may feel he's not doing his job and that is great he let his frustration out. However, he has improved immensely over his tenure here. He has went thru the worst four game run that I remember. His team has fumbled in key situations, got flags in key situations, threw interceptions in key situations, dropped balls in key situations, and yes received bad calls in key situations.
I believe he recruited probably the best he could, but he has went to a run bias offense with backs that don't seem to have good field vision and the quickness to break big plays. Having great young receivers that aren't really good down field blockers don't help much. I really question the coaching of the backs and wide receivers.
I want him at least one more year, because his teams show that they can compete at times in every game. It could take a long time to get a new regime to that point.

No improvement. Four years trying to find a QB....I do think he went with Skylar because he knows the Offense...but what does it say when there is noone ready to step up? It may be a hard pill for some to swallow, but I don't think its going to get better....not this season and not for the " one more "people ask for.....I also think any one of the teams left to play can beat this WVU team.

Well, his demeanor on and off the field, for one thing. It was as bad as I could imagine in the beginning. His public speaking has improved, had a long way to go. The recruiting has steadily improved. His admin. as a head coach has improved. Brought Gibby back, should have canned his buddy and hired an OC and QB coach. His ...... Hey, maybe that's not enough. The money to get rid of him is the killer to me, that's why I would keep him one more year. I admit it's hard, probably shouldn't have hired a person with no head coaching experience. He was one hell of a OC, hind sight is great, but we're here now.

Why do people continue to repeat this myth? You can look at past recruiting rankings to see that Holgorsen has recruited no better than RichRod or Stew. Continuing to repeat disproven myths will not make them true...
