Inouye was Hawaii's Stennis/Eastland. He served in DC from 1959 until his death in 2012, 4 years in the House & 49 in the Senate. He was Hawaii's original Congressman when it became a state in 1959. He also witnessed the Pearl Harbor attack as a 17 year old high school senior.

He actually trained his all segregated unit of Japanese Americans at Camp Shelby, which went on to be one of the most decorated units of the War

Thanks for posting this. His story is even more incredible than I knew. Interesting they sent them to Europe to fight. But that was the #1 priority then and the war with Japan was strictly Army Air Corps at the time.

I am pretty sure he was in the ken burns ww2 documentary. It was incredibly well done and his story was a focal point (again if I remember correctly). True hero

"My father just looked straight ahead, and I looked straight ahead, and then he cleared his throat and said, 'America has been good to us. It has given me two jobs. It has given you and your sisters and brothers education. We all love this country. Whatever you do, do not dishonor your country. Remember – never dishonor your family. And if you must give your life, do so with honor.' I knew exactly what he ment. I said, 'Yes, sir. Good-bye." -Senator Daniel K. Inouye

*We need more men that believe this way in our country

We laid to rest a true hero last week. One my best friends dad. He was 100yrs old. He fought in the battle of the Bulge in WWII.
I would go hang out with him on his front porch and drink sweet tea. He did not talk much about the war. He did tell me that they had to bed down in the forrest in Germany and he said that was the coldest he had ever been and that many guys didn’t wake up they froze to death in their sleeping bags. Greatest generation!

That's an awkward look for Kennedy, putting his hands in his coat pockets for some weird reason when Inouye has an obvious reason for his sleeve to be in his. Nobody puts their hands in their suit pockets, almost like he's trying to be sympathetic or something
Probably just embarrassed that they wore the same suit.

And remember how Ollie North and the Republicans questioned his patriotism during The Iran-Contra hearings. Good times.
