I just cannot get over the team we have coming back next year. Is this karma for all the rotten luck we have had in the past with players leaving early or not coming at all? I have no idea where Rick is going to play all these guys. With Ravern, Turner, Bost, and Stewart stretching the defense out to 25 feet, I don't see how anyone could handle us inside with Varnado, Osby, Augustus, Bailey, and Reik. I don't think I would trade our roster for any team in the nation right now with our mix of experience and talent.

to ever get too excited about basketball b/c you can be great for 4 months and then have 1 bad day (for whatever reason--this is not a stans post) and its all gone.

In baseball, you know you have to get beat twice. In football, the outcome of the bowl is usually irrelevant, the bowl itself is the reward and culmination of the season. Basketball is just so different.

We can literally put a completely fresh 5 out there and be ok. Practices should be pretty intense.

I wouldn't go even near that far.

Our guards look nothing like Douglas-Roberts, Rose, Anderson and that's a huge difference.

However, just about everyone's season will end with a loss except for two, the NIT champ and the NCAA champ. You have to enjoy the ride along the way.

... as good as we look on paper, in my mind, we still have several hurdles to clear before I start getting pumped. First is getting Sidney cleared, which, I've been told has no better than a 50/50 chance of happening. Second, I think anybody expecting Riek to contribute very much at all isn't very informed. He is supposedly a long term project. Third, I want to see if Rick can get Sidney to play with a team and play defense and if the chemistry is ok. We have had problems with that in the past. Maybe this time will be different. Overall though, we should be a very solid team even if Sidny doesn't make it. The key is to take care of business in the nonconference and get a top 6 seed.

my biggest concern is that rick will play around with the line-up so much in the nonconference schedule that we will once again lose some games we have no business even being close in.

comes in looking like Dontae Walker, and we have a repeat of the Augustus situation with 2HD getting Renardo Sidney Sr. on the phone every other day burning up his blog bitching about Sidney not getting enough playing time and that he shouldn't have to play defense, etc. Or that the NCAA won't clear him until January and it will take him half the season to get acclimated and won't be ready to contribute down the stretch.

if we don't win at least 50 games next season, it'll be a huge disappointment and Stansbury should be fired.

if you get to the Sweet 16. So the "everyone's season ends with a loss but 2" stuff doesn't really make me feel better.

It just sucks to know that we could go 14-2 in conference and with one bad day, not play on the second weekend.

I agree. Our guards our nowhere near the Douglas Roberts, Rose, Anderson level. Physical guard strength is our biggest weakest in my opinion. They seem to struggle with anything resembling dribble penetration. They just can't do it with their small 170 pound frames.

Fortunately, our guards will have an additional year of conditioning under their belts, so maybe we'll see Turner, Ravern, and Randy (I'm excluding Bost since he seems more capable of this) more able to drive effectively next year Shooting and quickness is there, but strength is not.

Of course, our front court could be so loaded and effective that defenses have no choice but to sag in on them leaving our guards open to be more effective than their natural ability normally allows.

I would rather have a team that wins the SEC and has a great season that loses in the second round than a mediocre team that finishes around 4th or 5th in the SEC but wins one more game to reach the Sweet 16. I just like the idea of having an entire season of excitement versus one extra week and then being forgotten. I honestly could not tell you who all was in the Sweet 16 this year but I do know who were the best teams throughout the year. That is just me. Obviously, it would be better to have a great season AND reach the Sweet 16 or better which is what I think we will do this year.

I personally don't see reaching the Sweet 16 as being such a big deal. Its only become a big deal with us because a Stans team hasn't done it. But heck, there is seemingly a mid-major team every year that nobody knows much about that reaches the Sweet 16. Anyone can potentially piece a couple of good games together once they've made it into the tournament. So I certainly wouldn't trade an overall SEC league title to be in the Sweet 16 but I would one to go another round or two further after that. There is no way to get within your own league the prestige that comes with a NCAA final four appearance but I don't know that making the Sweet 16 buys you that much. There's still 15 other teams you are sharing the spotlight with.

OK, so is it gonna be impossible to get cheap tickets this year? I never payed more then $10 in the past few years to buy a ticket. Do you think that will be impossible this year? Do I just need to get season tickets? Is it too late to get season tickets? Is anyone selling season tickets?

Where have you heard that getting Sidney cleared is only 50/50? From everything I've read, he will be here in the summer and will be eligible for the fall. </p>

when someone says sayings 50/50 that means they are un-educated on the topic and don't really know have any inside information on the subject.
Seriously..its playing the field both ways.. so you are right either way.

What kinda prediction is that.

hasnt been that way in a while..
You have to be top 2000 in the Bulldog club to even have a CHANCE
to buy season tickets.

So, you have to buy from scalpers or depend on the kindness of ticket holding state fans.

Although, the lady at the ticket office didn't say anything about the Bulldog Club or being 2000, she just said first come first serve if tickets become available. She could have been way off, but that is what she said.

I know if the students don't use their allotment
they will sell the remaining seats on a first come basis I believe for SEC Games.

This argument is pure BS. Sometimes things are 50/50. If you're about to flip a coin, and I say there is a 50/50 chance that it will land on heads, I know nothing on the subject according to you. I have no idea whether Downtown knows what he's talking about or not, but to say that because he says it's 50/50 automatically means he doesn't know anything is dumb.

I suppose you're right. I guess I wish there was a way to crack down on their aggressiveness while still allowing them to sell, which I understand probably isn't going to happen. I do agree that the tickets need to be used one way or another.

You have to act like they don't exist. Don't even give them a notion that you are looking anywhere in their general direction, unless of course you're in need of their services.
