I've heard it's in the works...starting with NU going to KU next year. Hope it's true...we need to beef up our non-con a bit if we want to increase our chances at an at-large bid. Also would be pretty sweet to see KU at the PBA.

Self won't play Mizzou for bolting to another league. Doubt he treats NU any differently but who knows?

I'd be surprised, unless it was a 2-for-1 where we played there twice and they played here once. Otherwise, I'm not sure why KU would have any interest in playing us, it's pretty much a lose-lose situation for them.

I would think that KU hating Mizzou and vise/versa since the civil war has even more to do with it.

Easy trip. Probably a guaranteed couple of wins. Likes our coach and AD. Our win streak against MSU has gained us a little bit of national respect IMO.

What I learned from listening to Benning this AM, is that the Big 12 told their schools not to schedule us. Wow, talk about a petty and immature attitude. It's not hard to fathom why that league has been in so much turmoil for the last 5 years.

If that is in fact the attitude of the Big 12, forget them...but it CAN'T be, because we have a deal with OU...

KU played Colorado in a home-and-home a couple of years ago, after Colorado bolted for the PAC-12. Of course Tad Boyle is a KU alum, but I doubt he has all that much pull with Self or the Kansas AD.

Wow...I laughed at you. A lot of times. Couldn't care less what you're starting or not. #Cry

Yeah good point although that series may have been a done deal before the departure. Who knows? How about you guys get us in the Big 10/and we can play every year a few times!! :)

Hopefully Jim Delaney is in the house for this game in Lincoln and for when OU comes to Lincoln. Let's get conference expansion started with some old Big 8 brothers.

It's close proximity for both teams (3-3.5 hrs from Lincoln to Larry). Lots of KU alums in the Omaha area. It's a new arena and a power 5 opponent. It's a good non conference match-up for both teams. I think I read that KU was 31-3 vs Neb in the Big 12 (I think Tyron Lue's team won once in Phog Allen '97? I recall Keith Langford hitting a game winning three with seconds left to win in '01 at Devaney...going back further I recall Bruce Chubbick making an incredible full court hustle play in a victory in '93?). Missouri's relationship with Kansas is much different than any other school...can't really compare.

Fun series that makes sense to schedule.

A chance to re-kindle the B12/B8 rivalries...if you can call it that. Why not?

You want to be the best, beat the best. If this happens in football, hopefully we can hold up our end of the bargain.

probably get screamed down for this stance but we don't need to schedule KU in basketball at this time period in the basketball program. There are enough quality out of conference opponents on the schedule between creighton, the ACC-BIG challenge and whatever preseason/holiday tourney we play in. We play in one of the toughest conferences in the nation. the goal of the preseason is to get enough wins so a .500 record in conference will get you an NCAA tourney birth. We aren't at that point yet and until we consistently are I'm not in favor of going out of our way to schedule probable losses. We aren't Michigan State or other like programs that schedule tough out of conf games in order to be tourney tested come March. We are on the bubble for an NIT birth as it is

Jlb I agree with you to a point. However, if we are going to recruit top notch kids we need to show them that we are playing top teams. Kids look forward to those matchups. It would also be a great time to bring in potential recruits to show them our facilities. And since the arena is sold out on a season basis, it would limit the possible takeover of the arena by KU fans. They will still get their share but it won't be anywhere like it was at Devaney. I actually saw 3 NU-KU games in Lawrence in the 2000's and was surprised that there were 500-1000 NU fans there at every game. We just had little to cheer about.

Interesting point. If you are on the bubble at the end of the season you would likely take a lesser opponent than Kansas...just to get that extra victory. AW III might be a factor here...KU also has a good following here. Heck, like someone else already stated, maybe KU just wants to get a feel for a B1G matchup (foreshadowing??).

With our non-con this year a .500 in the Big Ten may not even have us on the bubble. We don't need to make it murders row...but we need to schedule better in the non-con if we want to dance. Although, this year was most likely by design due to the inexperience on the roster.

if you get to 20 wins and .500 in the BIG I think you get an invite
the goal of the program at this time is to simply get in the tourney -- I don't think out of conference strength of schedule is going to play a big role given the conference we play in
going out of our way to schedule highly probable losses does not increase the probability of getting into the tourney

Obviously..this could change on a yearly basis...but to give you an indication what our RPI/SOS would look like if we went 20-11 this year(I added wins vs Miami and Samford)...and finished out winning 5 of our last 7 games that puts us at RPI of 77 and SOS of 96. NIT worthy...not big dance worthy. And that would put us above .500 in Big Ten play. I think in many instances the selection committe may reward you for playing KU as opposed to beating Arkansas Pine- Bluff at home. Even a loss to KU may help our RPI...it will certainly help our SOS.

certainly valid ..... from my standpoint as a recruit I want to play in the NCAA tournament - every year - not sure scheduling Kansas improves those chances. First round ncaa tourney game > preseason game against Kansas. Hopefully at some point the program is at a point where you can schedule Kansas or other like teams without having to worry about making the tourney. Just don't feel we are there yet

good points ... don't know the numbers but wonder how many teams that finish .500 in the BIG don't get an NCAA tourney birth.

Playing KU doesn't hurt our tourney chances. It helps our SOS tremendously whether we win or lose, and if we do happen to beat them, it's a huge resume win. If we lose, it's considered a "good" loss. At the very least, it helps us prepare for the quality opponents we'll face in the Big Ten, more so than beating up on Prairie View A&M. It also likely gives us National TV exposure for recruiting before conference play, which is rare for us.

I love the idea. Growing up, that was the game I looked forward to every year. I respect KU, but I hate losing to them. When they start that GD chant (I refuse to say the words) at the end of the game it makes me want to lose my **** and break something.

This has been in the works for a few years. They first started working on it during Doc's last year since he was chums with Self. Then he went and got himself fired and it was put on the back-burner. This is good for the basketball program and KU-NU fans generally get along well.
