and keeps my boy Porter in the line-up. Norris has been sinking at the plate- but maybe platoon he and Detz at 3B or just give Detz a week of reps at 3rd to get an honest amount of data to make a decision if it can work or not. And for the love of all things holy- get Detz out of the 4-hole.

1. Frazier
2. Bradford
3. Renfroe
4. Fatboy
5. Porter
6. Sgt Slaughter
7. Detz/Norris
8. Pirtle
9. Henderson (let Robson play midweek for experience)

That's probably the best line-up we can put on the field.

Agreed. That is the best lineup for us to be successful. Pirtle need to be our everyday second baseman. Porter needs to hit and Detz needs to hit. It's a shame that Norris can't win the job at 3B. Detz is outhitting him and left handed, so I would give him every opportunity over there. Detz needs to hit, lefty throwing against us or not. We can always put Sammy over there late in a game to three hop a force out a 2B. It's not like we have Brooks Robinson at 3B. It basically comes down to who can hit the best. They all field about the same and Frost is a liability because of his throwing. We should also get paid by the team that we are playing because Henderson gives the opposing team extra fungo ground balls throughout the game. Maybe they can donate that toward our expansion of Dudy Noble.

We could try Pirtle out at 3B. Detz obviously can't get it done there. But there again, if the guy can't play 3B, can't really move him to 2B. Plus I'd rather be stronger up the middle.

I'm at the point of trying Porter or Detz out in LF. And again, not sure why Woodruff isn't put out in LF like he did last year. And Norris should be getting time on the mound. Bradford too.

If Detz can play 3rd that solves a lot of problems because platooning he and Norris between RH and LH pitching makes sense. Is there a reason we think Detz can't play 3rd? Surely he can't field worse than Norris or throw worse than Frost? I do believe Porter has shown enough to warrant being the DH for the time being.

Oh, the many things you can learn by actually watching the game.

Well, I watched it on and off on Hail State TV and we had no errors so what did he do that was so bad? I didn't see any specific screw ups on his part during the time I was watching.

That's Mr. Slammin' Sammy to you sir. I've always said he's got dirty pics on somebody, and if they're anything like that talent Petrino was porkin' up in Arkansas I'd be interested in seeing them.

I don't really object to Henderson or robson; but if you're going to use one exclusively on weekends, he needs to play midweek too. I'm not comfortable with either to just play on weekends.

It's not just a one game deal. He's shaky at 3B in general. Basically I'm starting to realize why Cohen is leery of putting him anywhere in the infield except 1B.

i bet none of them were curves or change ups. Opposing pitchers can strike him out 90% of the time, on 4 pitches or less, by following this formula: 2 low and outside (out of the strike zone) fast balls to open. He will swing and miss both. A change up or curve too far down and inside to hit. And (if he didn't strike out on pitch 3) a change up or curveball away.

All of this assumes you are not a SWAC pitcher, or midweek pitcher for a bad team.

Yes...AND? He SO's 30% of his SEC ABs

And again, how many of those "scorchers" came off of curveballs or off speed pitches. He can nail a fastball, and he's far from a liability most of the time. But - when we're facing a good to great pitcher and we need a run to win or tie...there are 4 or 5 guys I'd rather see at the plate than him. If he ever learns some plate discipline and/or how to hit a curve, he'll be a beast.
