Several issues I imagine, gotta say the effort we saw in a lot of games last year wasn’t close to what we would have seen ten years ago. Could be people getting paid knowing they’re not going to the next level, locker room issues, idk. Gotta have a leader to motivate them though, on the bench and on the court. Guys aren’t going to buy into passive **** and they’ll eventually say to hell with it, pretty much why we’ve been drubbed in several games.
Football took a chance and hired an energetic youngster that lives for the game. Basketball will not take the same route
Barnhart destroyed us in that search, Pearl was my choice for someone who wanted to be and could actually motivate these guys. No way in hell Mitch was gonna let that happen, dude was a phony just trying to preserve his holier than though image.
It's not a good look when a raging alcoholic with zero social skills recruits at a higher level then you can.

Pope has lost and held for hostage by every top recruit since he arrived, even offering the most $.

You NEED to have that talent in the first place to even be in the conversation.
People can have their gripes with Cal and I get it but even on the tail end of his time here we still had teams that had really good seasons, were talented, and was at least in the conversation. And there was STILL excittement from the fanbase. Even at the end.

Jai Lucas. While he’s a bit of a gamble, he’s smart, motivated, and can recruit.
Coach cal went to Arkansas and won the sec tournament
in year 2. Arkansas won the sec tournament and finished 3rd in the SEC regular season. Meanwhile mark pope finished 9th! Sad sad days here in Bloomington. Coach cal is turning Arkansas around, while mark pope has turned Kentucky into The Hoosiers!

This is popcorn level shake my head, hope for the best, prepare for the worst times for Kentucky basketball. Try to keep the faith times. But I Bleed Blue. I'll be here supporting Kentucky until I die.
I just hope - I'm 57, my dad passed away at 76, so if I live as long as he did, I hope I can go out in my last year and see another title at Kentucky. I'm wondering very seriously if it can ever happen again.

Bruce Pearl would have been a perfect coach for us but the fans here hate him because he invited recruits to a BBQ lmfao. Holier than thou gets you nowhere.

I’ve kinda cooled on Jai a bit. We really need someone whose personality gels with Kentucky’s fanbase. Guys like Cal and Pitino got it. Even if Pope could recruit and coach better, his personality is a major turnoff for many UK fans.
If we can’t get Oats, take a shot at the Providence coach.
Pitino & Cal recruited here when there was no NIL.
Take a look at Cal's class so far this year. Don't look too hard - he hans't signed anyone yet. Technically Pope has a better class so far.

I was getting tired of the 1 and dones. Here for a few months then gone. I like that some players are actually for 2 or 3 years. Weren't we getting beat by teams with veterans in the tourney under Cal? Wasn't anyone else tired of that? I'm good with the 4 star players who will stick around for a few years. The ones just under the NBA radar who can play and help us win. The team can be better than the sum of the individuals. Pope needs to coach them up. It's possible. Stein is doing it for football without the 5 star guys. Time for Pope to step up too.
Does Steve Erkel look like the right fit for UK? I just don't see it. This place needs an alpha, Pitino, Cal. Presence. If the team loses, someone strong enough to tell BBN to STFU and be patient and make the fans believe it.
His roster at Miami is better than any roster popes put together lol
Right blend is a mix of 1-2 OADs and other multi year players. You have NBA talent, yet some seniority and friendly faces.
You don't have to look too hard. Scheyer's starting lineup this year will have Ngongba in his third year, Sarr in second, JBB the freshman lottery pick, Blackwell senior transfer.
Hurley seems to find kids that are on the two year plan to the NBA.
It's going to take more than just a recruiter. You want someone that can coach, have a system, be a leader, fit Lexington.
This year a good test for Jai - he's got a top ten roster. Let's see what he can do with it. Have other thoughts regarding Jai that make me wonder if he'd want to coach UK.
The objective was to replace a coach who was a really good recruiter , but couldn't coach with a coach who might not be as great of a recruiter, but could coach. Barnhart managed to hire one who isn't good at either.
This isn't a Cal vs Pope issue. They both suck at their jobs. Just in different ways.
Puke has a 39 year old coach who has won 83.2% of his games. I have no clue what makes you think they would be hiring Lucas.
