These are the decisions that infuriate me. Last week the only reason Charlotte scored is because Horton put the ball on the ground. He did it 2 more times yesterday and he kept running him out there...and dont even say Boom and jojo were hurt. I know that...should have went with King

Looking to the future, if coaches or a private tutor can correct Horton's upright running stance and teach him to run with a forward lean---chest, shoulders, & head ---in front of hips and legs, he has definite talent!!!

Horton has plenty of promise, but he does desperately need to improve pad level and ball security. Scott has done nothing to improve his game. Only question is whether the problem stems from lack of coaching, or lack of listening and response. He has had time to up his game.

He has been running very loose with the ball away from his body his whole time here. Either is not being coached or he is ignoring.

He runs with the ball in the wrong arm a lot of the time as well. The fumble he lost around the 30 yard line he was running left with the ball in his right arm. Boom does this a lot as well except for it's usually always his left arm. Granted the brace on his right arm probably hasn't allowed him to carry it in that arm, but he was doing this long before the injury.

Horton's lack of conditioning is troubling too. He breaks a nice run, gets inside the 10 and his legs seemingly give way. Also, about 3 straight carries is all he's good for. Hope all these guys do better on the conditioning end during the off season.

It was obvious to any observer that Boom & Jo Jo got hurt. Net, WHO needed to SAY anything? As for King, you're just like those that know Barker is better than Towles since Barker wasn't playing.

I thought King should have played. UL had little problem stopping Horton. King should have been given a shot to break one.

Heard yesterday he was playing with a bad hand?

If true why not go with King and work to get him in space? Hell even use Timmons in the backfield not a back with a hurt hand that leaves it on the ground.

I really like Horton. he is big and explosive. to me it is getting him prepared not only physically but mentally. his issues are fixable. he needs to put both hands on the ball coming through the line and before contact. he will get that if coached up.

my biggest concern is one I have with a lot of the players I seen this year. mentally not coached up. a toughness and drive that comes from being motivated. a good coach gets that last 2% out of you. not saying he does not run hard, I'm saying just not seeing that determination and fight a good coach instill in players. example: on the screen pass Horton should of scored. that last 5 yards he gave up and went down. when he seen that goal line he should of gotten a fire in him and dragged the def in the end zone. I think if they get him mentally strong his fumbles will stop and he scores on plays like that.

Etown that's my point. but at times he has hit the line hard and fought for yards. so I know he has it in him. he has taken on the personality of his coaches like most young players do. you coach him up mentally he could be a difference maker. just to big and fast not to be.

Yes, Boom and Jo Jo were hurt. Yes, King can't be an every down back due to his size.

But, one thing this team has seemed to lack is accountability. WRs who drop the ball consistently still get the majority of the snaps. And a RB who puts the ball on the ground 3 times in 2 games still gets every carry in the 2nd half.

Someone above nailed it - Horton is too slow, tentative approaching the LOS. If he has a hole, he seems to run harder once he gets to the 2nd level. But our OL doesn't hold holes open very long.

Given our struggles in the 2nd half, I can't believe we didn't try some draws or screens to King to get him in space. Despite being a true frosh, he has home run ability due to his speed. To me, it was obvious that we needed to bust a big play if we were going to score again. Horton has strengths, but he is not going to take one the distance.

Horton is SLOW and Soft going at the line. Go watch the replays. He is at his best in the open field after picking up steam. Like on a screen pass.
This. Horton does not have a quick burst and never will...thats ok if we use him right...screens are the perfect play for him...i can count on 1 hand how many times we threw him a screen this year though. :(

Bingo...he's not a SEC back. Our best use is to beef him up and make him a FB.

Boom, JoJo, Snell should be the RB rotation next year. I have no idea what King can give UK. He goes down with a whisper. For sure, he's a special teams only guy and should be less around RB than Horton. Many of Stoops recruits aren't any better than what Joker was bringing in the door (Horton, King, TV Williams, Meant, Flannigan, Long, Nick Haynes, Timmons, Hytchye, etc..).

I don't know why King didn't get in. It's obvious we were short on rb's and not playing anyone available is a head scratcher like Ullisman said.

I've scratched my head so much this year that I've rubbed the hair off of one side. The coaching staff is going to have to get better or I'll have to change hands and go to the other side of my head next year.

No doubt. I think that he could make a good hback/slot/FB/TE hybrid type of guy. I just don't know if his blocking skills are good enough.

Ehatch the game replay and you'll notice the defense is already in the backfield before the ball is even in Mikels hands. Not many true sophomore RB's are going to run thru that.
Another example of being forced into action too soon, needed a redshirt yaer.. If we can retain our 2016 OL commits he will be a huge contributor his seniir year.
Does need to get his pads much lower and get his pads out in front more.
Needs some.really good coaching to reach his potential.
May not be possible here at UK!

Move the guy to HB/TE. His yards per target number was third best on the team. Per the play-by-play data, he caught the ball every time he was targeted. He's a great asset to the passing game, as opposed to Boom who is useless as a blocker and a poor receiver.

We squandered King, Conrad and IMO Blake Bone this season.

I couldn't believe King didn't get any carries against UL.

Since you said it, I'll go ahead and agree with it. Some of UK's highest rated recruits are simply not having much "early impact". And at programs like UK a "true" 4* talent in a "skill position" should be making an impact. There is no doubt Boom Williams and Conrad are top shelf talents; the jury is still out on others including Horton and, well, Barker. While it is always better to be ranked higher than lower in recruiting rankings over time, ranking in individual years can often be misleading. In mid tier programs like UK and UofL it is not uncommon to see some highly ranked guys just not perform at that level in college and actually be out performed by "lesser ranked" talents.

Peace

I would guess King probably doesn't know the offense well enough to be a main contributor. As a 4th string back, you are rarely getting any snaps with the 1st team offense. He likely wouldn't know audibles, blocking assignments, and all the plays to have contributed regularly against UL when Boom and JoJo both went down .

Im guessing hes ignoring it. Cant imagine any coach above grade school level who isn't teaching ball security.

Every player is dinged up by this time of year. Not much of an excuse. But I agree, no way he should've seen the field after his fumble. I don't care who we had to put back there.

Since we have nothing to compare it to, we really have no idea what 'explosive' really means

Hint: Watch other SEC backs and you'll see what the term explosive really means cuz we don't compare....Boom is the closest we have

As for Horton, he's a tortoise compared to SEC backs

Horton is slow and lacks quickness ...runs straight up with poor ball security... Perfect back for UK

He runs high through the hole and keeps the ball loose from his body. Instead of tight and protected and he's very slow hitting he gaps and seams. I think he catches and runs out of the backfield very good.

He's our third string running back who gets four yards a carry and provides a little different look than our starting back. If we can get more from him, that's great. But his contribution to the team is best where he's at.
