Maryland and Caps fans yell something in unison during the anthem
Yup, it’s a Maryland - Baltimore thing. I think they just yell Woo! or something. A guy explained the tradition to me when I went to Camden Yards to see the Cubs one year but I can’t remember the origin. I just know it’s a thing. @dconifer care to weigh in?

I wasn’t able to make the game, so when this thread was originally posted I just skimmed past it without reading. Then today I noticed that it’s grown to a few pages, so I assumed something was going on here. I **** you not — I thought to myself “I bet kyk is involved somehow” and would you look at that!

Haha no. Its no secret i yell “go rutgers” during every anthem im at. Just as with the entire arena i yell “go rangers” or “**** _____ (insert jerkoff players name from prior game that everyone has on their mind)” at every rangers game.
Just wondering what is your stance on kneeling during the anthem?

Haha bro this doesn’t even compare to you yelling “Larry Nassar” or “Phuck Seton Hall” in the middle of a National Anthem.

You were 1 out of 14,000 people that yelled something stupid on Saturday. How do you not see that you’re in the extremeeee miniority?

Yes, fans of every professional and college team in every sport in the Washington and Baltimore areas do that. They are yelling "O!!" "O" for for "Orioles!" is where it started (as others have said upthread)...

ETA: you may not realize it, but fans of all the teams in Washington and Baltimore are basically part of the same fan base.

Sorry if this is derailing the thread, but does anyone have a video of the actual singing? I'm curious how it sounded given the high praise it was given.

Thats is oddly a rutgers thing. I do wonder if people go to other sporting events. I dont go to a ton of rutgers games but i go to a tonnnn of rangers game. At rangers games its customary to yell during the quiet parts of the anthem. This is the same for most sporting events.
Well that's a sh!tty tradition. Not shocked it's common @ Ranger games.
Ranger fans gonna Ranger fan.
Definitely not the same for MOST events. Cheering and clapping during ? Yes. Yelling out like a dumbass? Not in my experience with folks around me.

Not worth it man haha. Assault charges are no joke. And i wouldve been in the wrong if i hit him first regardless of what he said. Now had he hit me first then it wouldve been open season

However, people would be alot friendlier if you could still get pummeled for talking **** problem is you cant so people like this kid feel empowered
Agree with you on this one.

Very much look at me behavior. Might be understood if he had too much to drink pre-game but, apparently, this is just him being him. That young lady absolutely nailed the anthem, best that I've ever heard live. She set the stage brilliantly. Maybe someone should ask her how she liked an attention hound yelling out during the performance. It's all about me...

well ive learned a couple things here
1) rutgers fans are a holy bunch
2) rutgers games arent rangers games and i should be quiet during the anthem

Haha i sincerely know nothing other than to be loud during the quiet parts of the anthem since I was 3 going to rangers games. Honestly, it feels weird to me and not natural when its quiet during those parts. Well anyway, apparently many here did not grow up in the same garden i did. I shall reserve that for hockey and tonight at 7:30 when im back at the garden to see the rangers kick off the second half and hopefully a cup run

These are my earliest memories of the anthem. John Amirante used to wave on the crowd to get loud during the anthem. Just engrained in the culture of that building

Clearly no one talk to respect for the flag and anthem and proper etiquette. Would you talk at the tomb of the unknown soldier and ignore the proper etiquette there too?

Its obvious alot of people here dont go to sporting events at msg. They were likely shocked that people werent yelling during the quiet parts. Its customary at Rangers games.

Go to the rangers game tonight vs the flames and be in your seat for the anthem haha
Oh puhleeze. I was taking the "D" train from Brooklyn starting at age 6. I've probably been to MSG between Knicks games, and concerts like a zillion times albeit not hockey games/never liked.

If he could understand this he wouldn't be doing it in the first place.

Disagree... The girl at MSG was better, probably best I've heard live.

Girl at the RAC the other night was definitely good too though
