Most teams would have given up the TD after that drive. Hell of an effort & heart from our defense.

Everyone in the chat was like "let them score" so we could still have time to drive. I guess that's why we're not the coach.
After getting gashed on the ground for the majority of the second half they nutted up when it mattered most. Hats off to the defense for not laying down

To me that was the most amazing part of the game. I was ticked that we didn't let them score the TD so we'd have more time to tie it up..., but that goal line stand should go down as one of the best in State history.

Once they got the first down inside the 10 before the 2-minute warning with State having all three timeouts, letting them score was off the table, barring a penalty that gave them a first down after we had used timeouts.
I never thought that. If we needed 7, ASU would likely have safety help up top. They were playing to keep us out of FG range & we burned them deep.

Exactly. They win that game if they punch it in there. We weren’t going to score a td if they knew that’s what we had to have.
It's wild we gave up that drive for like 9 minutes but held em to 3 points, then strike like lightning in under a minute to snag one of our biggest home wins in quite a long time.

I am not taking anything away from the DC because the final call for defense is his but bringing in those two former DC and HC as Defensive Analysts was best thing Lebby did.

Hats off to Nic Mitchell. A touchdown there snd we lose. Holding them to 3 made it possible. They were worried about us getting in field goal range and boom

This is definitely a problem that we didn’t have last year.
I honestly think Dillingham outsmarted himself there. Went way too predictable on play calls & played right into our hands. And he should have gone for it in 4th down. Worst case, you give us the ball at the 1. You might even get a safety. And we still have to drive 60 yards for a fg to win. And if it goes to OT, the way that last drive went I like my chances if I’m him.
The official almost made a great tackle on that TD tho. And since they are "part of the field", it would have counted and we'd have lost.
someone posted a video on here with a view from the endzone, he wasn't as close to the official as it looked from the other angle. but yeah, as it was happening in real time i was screaming for the official to get out of the way.
watching live, I was thinking this. Then I thought "no way our player would run into the ref he's looking at".... then I thought "this is how we actually lose"

Would have been the most Mississippi State thing ever. Receiver tackles himself running into the ref. Then we mismanage the clock & never get the ball snapped for a game tying FG.
Agree. But I also think they made a big mistake going aggressive on defense. Our offense was explosive plays last night. If they just continue playing zone, then worst case is we have to make a long FG to force OT, and they were in much better position to win in OT.
