Last year we went out to Cleveland and had a good time.

This year I have a newborn son and didn’t head out to Pittsburgh - it’s all good though, we’ll get em next year .

Had family at the house and was busy hosting and BSing when at 6:55 my future brother in law is busting through the front door scavenging for the remote control in a panic. The guy is an officer in bergen county and was on-duty that night but called the captain and asked for a longer meal break so he could watch the championships. Captain says, “you’re the third guy who asked me already - enjoy”
Anyway, -all day i thought the finals were starting at 8pm and not 7. If it wasn’t for this lunatic barging through at 6:55 I would have missed the whole thing.

Lot of tension during the match, ref was in our heads with some crappy calls and the way he was communicating with the wrestlers didn’t sit well (he talked to nick as if he wasn’t pushing the pace for most of the match). Anyway, he got the escape and the amount of juice that ran through my house was insane. We yelled, the dog went nuts and then my little son - our future 157lber - went nuts.
It was a great time

It was a great time

I watched it my living room. Over the past couple of years my two older kids have been converted to wrestling fans. They, along with my wife, joined me in front of the Samsung. Prior to the start of the telecast, my stomach was in knots from the nerves. So I quickly guzzled a few tasty craft beers from the fridge and felt a little better. As we settled into our seats and saw Lee work towards his second championship, my daughter reached over and had me touch her hand which was cold and clammy. If there was ever any doubt, I now knew she was totally hooked on wrestling.

I pretty much predicted the early part of the match. Fix not doing much, Suriano more aggressive but not taking any big risks. During regulation, I was yelling at the TV as Fix continually backed up and positioned himself with his back to the edge of the mat. All to no avail as the refs couldn't hear me. OT #1, not much. OT #2, me screaming at Nick to complete the ride out...and then he got the stall. OT #3 and Fix gets the double legs in. There goes Nick's chances at winning...until the blessed stalemate was called with 9 seconds left. Nick escapes to tie and I erupt (good thing the dog was outside). OT #4 and the quick TD and I want to jump through the TV!

AA's match did not provide the tension like Nick's did, but I couldn't have been prouder for Anthony as they raised his hands and Rutgers completed the night with two national champions. What an absolutely fantastic night, and I was glad my family was there to share the victories with me.

I watched it in the living room by myself. I couldn’t believe that escape. I can’t remember feeling happier for an athlete who broke through. He deserved it. Nick had unreal expectations and he met them. He’s a champ. Hell he and Anthony made us all feel like champs

I watched from the living room too.

Suriano's match, at the review for hands to the face the dogs ran to the basement from my over exuberance at showing displeasure for the review. By the third period my wife left the room as she couldn't watch. Then commence yelling every name in the book at John Smith on final review.

Ashnault match, dogs and wife returned. Dogs didn't last long about 30 secs into the match, again hands to the face and off to the basement once again never to return. They really have to do something about this rule my dogs hate it. I think I'm unintentionally teaching them, "Hands to the Face" means run. By third period my wife couldn't take it any longer and left. If we ever had a son who wrestled, my wife would be just like Mrs. Ashnault. Any article of clothing close by, her head would be buried in it during the match. She even said so upon replay.

Row N, sec 119. Was the best Rutgers experience of my life. Even better than the Louisville game. The entire event from start to finish had that level of energy that was unbelievable. I really enjoyed the fan interaction and the props we received from other fans from the other schools. It felt like we belonged, which is not the feeling I have ever gotten since joining the B1G in either football or hoops.

If I’m not there I rarely watch any Rutgers stuff live anymore.

Too stressful. And as I’ve aged it seems to get worse.
Same with me. I taped the matches so I knew that I wouldn't miss anything, but felt that I might jinx Nick and AA if I watched. I followed the thread on Rivals. If I had watched Nick's bout, I don't think my heart could have made it through the OT period when it seemed throughout the period (until 9 seconds left) that he was going to lose.

I lost it on the stall call. Unreal.

My son and I sat right behind you in 119 row P. Met a ton of passionate fans and enjoyed the pre match social where AD Hobbs gave a tremendous pep talk including great love and support from Sarah. Lost my voice for 2 days following the events of Saturday night!

Stayed at the OMNI so a nice brisk 10 min walk to arena.

My son called it the best week of his life! Also got to finally have a great conversation with @rondi.

You will read about my experience in the SKWC newsletter. Sat in Section 103 which is the 40 yard line. Unreal experience. Usually I am uptight at RU matches but for some reason I knew we would do it.
I was so stressed out and it just got worse the farther they advanced. My fitbit was blowing up by Saturday night. lol

I sat first row matside for the finals and when Nick won our 1st ever we went completely BONKERS along with 5-7 other Rutgers fans who came running up matside and we celebrated like old family, even though we basically just met, lol.
As others said above, overall it was my best sporting event ever in person, shockingly to me, topping 06 v Lville.
RUTGERS!!
