I trust that Byrne exhausted every resource that he had to hire the best available candidate, and that's all we could have ever asked for. LT would have settled on the special teams coach from North Dakota Tech or some ****. Based on Byrne's criteria for the new head coach, Mullen fits.

Not taking away from Byrne, this was probably the best we could do. Being Mississippi State we become the experimental station that will decide if the baby bird can fly on his own, away from Papa Meyer. I thought with the money we had to offer we may not become such a risky experiment.

I agree with an earlier post, I will not get season tickets and see how it plays out. Crucify me, if you want, but I have earned that right.</p>

But, real test will be how well Mullen executes. We shall see in the next 1-2 years. BB

he may have five stars by his name but you don't know how he will pan out. We always give coaches props for bringing in 4 and 5 star guys and in my opinion Mullen is a 4 star.

B+ for Coach Byrne

He posts a number 3 offense two years in a row against the SEC defenses, In three years we have to be closer to the top 50.

We've done the defensive route and had 3 wins seasons for 5 years (basically). I mean a damn field goal would've won against Auburn.

Who's to say he doesnt bring a decent defensive mind in to Starkville?

He is no more of a gamble than Petersen would have been. Maybe less, considering his SEC experience. Also, he has been associated with one of the best coaches in the country for many years. I think this is a great hire and with his recruiting connections in Florida, I expect he will bring significant improvement to this program in a couple of years.

I am thankful that he pursued it. And it appeared he did all he can if Friday was any indication.

So with that, I give him 90. That's an A in college but a B in high school.

What the hell has Nutt proven to you? This is a great hire for State...all Nutt has done is made good out of Coach O's guys...I think Nutt was a decent hire considering Texas Tech is about to stomp a hole in his ***...Why don't you go post on a USC board I'm sure they'll respect your opinions...douche
I give Bryne an A and am looking forward to Tyler and Mullen doin work next year!

I have no reason to give him any lower. Top rated mid major coach (petersen) would have been an A+. I know Byrne worked his *** off and this might have been the best hire for Mississippi State. Think about it, what better coach have we ever hired?

I think Byrne did a great job with the search and at least TRIED to get a really good coach.

If Mullen had some coaching experience, I'd give him an A.

I feel better about Mullen than I did about Kevin Wilson.

.....I think Byrne has done a great job. Remember people, if LT were still in charge we'd be announcing Bobby Wallace or a similar incarnation.

Grand Scale=C+ (If Cower Belichek=A+'s & Sly Croom & Ed O= F's)

Realistic Scale for MSU=A-

So I'd give a solid B

A bowl game next year the grade stands
A Peach, MC, or even Cotton-grade goes to A-
Indy Bowl-B-
Improvement but no bowl C

Petersen or Patterson would be an A+. Does everyone realize we were closer to getting Petersen than most schools. I would think Tenn and AU would have contacted him. He just isn't leaving the Northwest. If Byrne was set on getting an offensive coach, Mullen = Wilson. I don't think you can be disappointed with either of those choices. Patterson is a defensive coach, I am not sure how hard we went after him. Mullen really might have been #2 on the list.

I don't know if we have ever had a QB coach as good as we now have. That in itself will make us ALOT better.

there are only a few guys out there that could have gotten him the A. the unspoken name is one and we almost had him. Mullen is a good hire and meets the criteria that Byrne set.

I don't expect you to remember anything past the last fly that you snapped at while mulling over the decision to lick your balls or go chase the mail truck, so I'll let you off easy on this.

Second, I have never said ANY coach was anything other than a "decent hire" until they had a couple of seasons under their belts. You may wish to have some of your nurses read my earlier posts about Pete Carroll's unceremonious arrival at USC, which did not event rise to decent hire until two years later.

Third, I have also indicated that I think the effect of Mullen will be pretty close to immediate in both the total offense and the W/L column. I have my doubts, however, about a freshman quarterback behind your current O Line and consider it delusional enough for involuntary hospitalization to believe otherwise. I will be happy to set up a reservation at the Whitfield Hilton if you desire.

Fourth, USC boards are not nearly as much fun.

Fifth, douche is the best you've got?

Solid hire. I would have preferred someone with head coaching experience on a lower level, but he has good credentials and has been a part of Florida's success. I'll gladly take a little of that success.

If " I'm satisfied" didn't want the job we didn't need that person.

The OC at either Ok or Fla are absolutely fine. Evidently, neither were satisfied and wanted more and getting one of the two best coordinators in D1 football is without doubt is a job well done.

...And not just in W-L record and competitiveness.

Athletic ability a given, I'll be following recruiting, retention, graduation and reduction/elimination of "off-the-field" problems. As of yet, all of these things have yet to be determined.
