How is that not an automatic 10 second run-off of the clock?

If that call is right, then you don't even have to have your offense set to spike the ball. Just as long as the QB gets the ball from center and spikes it on time you're ok. You can have 3 men on the defensive side of the ball and 5 others in motion.

It should have been a false start or illegal motion penalty because of the five unc guys running off the field. If one of those penalties was called I think the clock would continue to run after the penalty is marked off.

UNC completed a 6 yard pass in-bounds. The clock would have run down to almost nothing and UNC would have had to try an almost unmakeable FG. Not to mention the extra point that UT missed. They really blew this one.

The extra players were outside the numbers, which results in too many men on the field and no time run-off. Had an extra player still been inside the numbers, then it would have been illegal shift plus a time run-off.

...too many men inside the numbers. The freaking holder and kicker were both lined up in the backfield when the QB spiked the ball.

UT deserved to lose with all the stupidity on the last drive, but that last play was BS.

lost a football game in high school that way, we were lining up to kick about a 42 yarder to win the game. the ball is snapped and the kick is good but the whistle sounded before the snap and the play did not count since its a dead ball foul. The other team had 12 guys on the field. So we had to line up to kick a shorter 37 yarder and this time it was blocked. ended up loosing the game by 1.
