How long before we declare the Rick Ray experiment a failure?

How low do our attendance numbers have to fall and how many more embarrassing losses do we have to endure before we declare the Rick Ray experiment to be a failure? I thought that Stansbury needed to go, but little did I know how bad Stricklin would screw up the search for a new coach. I now long for the days when we were at least on the bubble for an NCAA bid. Now we are on the bubble for worst team in the SEC. Having observed this team for two years, I have no confidence that Ray can even get us back to as good as we were under Stansbury. I don't know the answer, but Rick Ray clearly isn't it.

No significant improvement in talent and direction by then, he'll be gone. I think we will see a momentum change next yr. if not, I'm okay with the seat warming up. That said, our attendance should be better. It's shameful the lack of support that he gets. Our baseline support should be twice that no matter the coach.

If we're basically in the same boat next year, i.e. grinding it out in a battle not to be in last place, would you support making a change?

Below 50 % from free throw really pisses me off. Teams with less talent absolutely have to be good at the stripe. Unacceptable.

More win this year than last

7 Scholly players, several injuries.

I'm sure you are a smart guy, you get the idea.

Honestly, I don't care. I've been apathetic since after the 2008 season.

I just think you need to give a guy 3-4 yrs to make a solid case to fire him in a rebuild scenario.

You counting Wilson?

Heaven help us.

Regardless, Rays' fate depends on his ability to get players in here that will make it happen.

Ray came in under a Bull **** situation,

But it' does not take as long to rebuild a basketball program as most others.

I agree with the ckDog, unless things just go totally South... 4 yrs.

Trends are very important.

No. Announcer after announcer says this but it's wrong.

Ready, Davis, Ware, Thomas, Sword, Johnson, Bloodman and Borchert

Unless one of them is a walkon I don't know about.

We actually have 9 but Ray refuses to play Travis Daniels because apparently in 2016 he is going to be awesome. For the record, I have thought this was a mistake since day 1. As this as we are in the post, I would have taken 1.5 years over a redshirt this year and two years to follow.

He actually has three more guys that are just as good as some on scholly. 24, 12 and 13. Moore played pretty good today. Where was Flat top Fred? DAVis played his same subpar game.

Yeah, it was on the radio, and all that

And on the SEC TV Network, but I don't get the HS reference.

His hearing must be much better than mine.

There is no excuse to losing to Auburn and Georgia, especially as bad as we did, with the players we have. That's not also mentioning the absolute beatdown we took from the Big 12's worst team.

I'm not saying Ray is a horrible coach, and I'm certainly not saying he shouldn't be a HC... But I wish him all the luck in the world at the mid-major he coaches at next. Hustle wins those conferences, not big market ones.

Like I said in another post, it's probably not fair, but just like Croom he has done a subpar job (WE KEPT THE SAME S&C COACH)... But the next guy will ride in on a magic carpet with fanfare like you've rarely seen, like Mullen. Sometimes a lackluster performance is what you need from a coach on your way from a historic coach to one beginning a new chapter.

Croom never got attendance numbers but Mullen did in year one on the way to 5-7 with TYSON LEE at QB. Maybe Stricklin is just a genius and knew at last 1/2 of us would hate a new coach regardless and would reunite us with the 2nd new coach... Who knows. Perhaps he's an idiot and should follow Ray to East Kansas Tech or wherever.

Maybe before you reply to this with a post about how MSU fans are quick to jump on coaches doing horribly with less than stellar talent (Cohen) maybe we should also consider some people aren't great coaches.

I just don't think we should be having these problems grabbing talent. And if having a coach with no Mississippi ties is the problem maybe we should fix that. Hire USM's coach.

Add in the 'known fact' that Daniels has had some 'ISSUES' in his past. So, we enter next year, not knowing whether Daniels has the discipline to be a 'team player' for Ray, when he could have contributed this year and we would at least know if he could or not.

Insstead, we enter year three of Ray's team with another 'unknown.'

Another year like the last 2 and he won't get a 4th year.

I think he will get a fourth year. I have no opinion on whether he should or not based on his coaching abilities, but he took over a complete dumpster fire. If his recruiting is as bad as everybody says, he won't be leaving the team in much better shape talentwise, although he will hopefully at least have a full team. I'm not sure it should take a good coach four years to rebuild in basketball, but I think even good coaches will be concerned if they think they won't get at least four years to turn it around. You have to have a little bit of luck with recruiting and with our recruiting base, I think it'd be very easy for a good coach to take 4 years to get on track if talent in our recruiting base happened to be thin for a couple of years when he started.

If Tyson Cunningham is as good as some of the scholly players, then we are in pitiful shape. Tyson Cunningham hustles and plays hard but he isn't good.

Ray seems to be a good coach, but he needs to get some talent.
