he had the entire play in front of him...unless he was drawing the throw to keep them from throwing home

Blame has to be put on Cohen for these idiotic mistakes. We killed two late innings by baserunning mistakes.

That's ridiculous. He whiffed at two bunt attempts and then struck out looking. Killed all the momentum. I thought that was one of the dumbest coaching moves I've heard in a while.

We dont have the talent to run the bases. We just need to learn his system. We just dont know how to play aggressive. Its better than what Polk what do. We will find guys who can run the bases. This year doesnt matter anyway. Thanks Polk. Why did you make our players run like little leaguers on the base paths? Is that in the book?

UK had lost 7 straight conference games and UT had lost 9 when we played them.

We have some really nice boys on this team...

He did that so your best power hitter would get so discouraged that he wouldn't come back next year and he will replace him with an even better hitter.

Because John Cohen doesn't make mistakes.

Guys... just want to clear that play up... I was in the third base photo box at the time and Hogue actually made a heads up play. It was going to be close at third and the runner wasn't going to cross home before he "might" have been out. I'm not sure want he was being told by the coach... but I can say it was a good call on his part.

I know they have run their way out of some big innings at times... but this wasn't one of them. Unless you want to make the case he never should have made the attempt...and in that case I really don't know if there would have been a play at the plate.

I just hope when Cohen decides to take over the SEC he allows us to win one or two series. Just curious, is it just going to be Ole Miss that goes straight to the ******* or is it going to be the entire SEC according to you and your esteemed colleague, the Goat Holder.

that his team is making wayyyy to many base-running mistakes, then we'll be ok.Hell we knew the man was'nt gonna be perfect.. nobody is..I'm Jackbaddawg & I approve this message. Once I thought I made a mistake, but I was wrong.

On the radio Ellis said that Hogue would have made 3rd easily had he kept running. I'm not saying that I doubt you, but that's what some of this is based off of I'm sure.

It looked to me Hogue thought the throw was going home and he could make third. No way they throw out the runner coming home, the hit went right over the 3rd baseman, Hogue was way to aggressive and wasn't thinking about Sneed being on deck. Should have stayed at 2nd, no way do you make the finally out at 3rd nor home plate.
Btw, Hogue was 2/3rd of the way to third when they threw to 3rd for the final out.

...the Auburn series.

Best to ignore these scrubs from here on out. I don't know what their problem is, and frankly, I don't care anymore. What we have learned is they didn't know much about baseball when they arrived in Starkville, and they refuse to learn the game while in Starkville.

Just for the record: I was on the "blame Cohen first" bandwagon before it was cool.

All I can say is, accept this baseball season is over.

Cohen has a bunch of talent coming in next season; next season will be nothing like this season.

Put it this way: If Cohen can't rescue the program with the influx of talent he'll have at his disposal next season, we'll have to begin questioning his hire.

..he chose not to either play, or coach, at the Univeristy of Mississippi.

Cohen is not perfect, but at least he avoided the underachieving black hole that is the University of Mississippi baseball program.</p>

I don't disagree that he should have stayed at second... that would have been the play in that situation because he scores on a base hit no matter which base he was on. And I also think he would have been safe if he had kept running... but from my vantage point he pointed home while looking at Burroughs on third then stopped 10 feet from the bag. The players were also discussing it in the dugout after the inning.

Again, if he keeps running I think he is in safely... but we can't change it now.

We're playing in the SEC with Gulf South Conference talent. That's the problem. And I don't care who the coach is, you can't win in the SEC with GSC talent. Ron Polk never had a losing season in his 30+ year career until he coached these guys. Few people have bashed Polk as long or as often as I have, but one thing he proved over and over again in his career was that when he had decent talent he could win games. Maybe not as many as he should have, but he always at least had a winning season.

bunt attempt in the 3rd (I believe it was in the 3rd) was the thing I was most irritated about. I just couldn't believe it when he was showing bunt. When he squared around again, I was just amazed. Sure enough, we didn't mount another serious offensive threat until the 9th.

... even Gulf South Conference baseball players arrive to campus knowing how the game of baseball is played.

The Cohen News Bears don't even know how to play the game of baseball.

You can blame that on Polk for recruiting their ignorant butts, or you can blame Cohen for not coaching them up.

But you can't just excuse this mess of a season by saying they are Gulf South Conference level players when they can't even play the game.

Having said that, the fact they are near the top of the league in almost all batting categories as well as stolen bases...that right there negates both your & my theories.

And I have NEVER seen a team do this as much as us, but I've seen us do it over, and over, and over again. It drives me nuts.

First of all, let me make it clear that I am NOT talking about Hogue's play, but our baserunning in general, and I saw it again on Sat.

We are VERY tenative and indecisive on the bases when we shouldn't be. We get to second on a hit and instead of running through the base and making an agrressive turn we SLOW down and kind of shuffle over the base and then all of a sudden the runner will decide to take off for third. The other major baserunning sin that we are doing is instead of looking at the third base coach, our runners are trying to pick up the ball behind them when they shouldn't. When you look behind for the ball and slow down, obviously what's going to happen is the baserunner is going to slow down, and that's going to cost them a second or two, which is all the time a decent RF or whatever needs to gun someone down.

What they should do is before they even get to second, pick up the third base coach. This is one reason why the guy is there- to help communicate to the runner what's going on behind them. Because of this, there is really no need for them to slow down or look behind them. The only time a runner should look behind for the ball is if someone hits a shallow fly ball that may or may not be caught or maybe in a run down situation. Other than that, and maybe some other exceptions that I can't think of right now, pick up the third base coach and do what he says.

Now, why are we having some problems with that? I don't know. I think most of it is a baseball instinct issue, because a lot of these mistakes are split second decision types of things that a runner has to make almost instantly. You don't have time to stop, look for the ball, and then start again.

I think Jet Butler is the WORST at this I have ever seen. Heck, he hit a ball to third base and it took him almost 2-3 seconds just to get out of the box.

I contend we will find out today which coach left their former program in worse shape. If the last two days are any indication, it's close.
