How many teams get to end their season with a W?

It's a good point. 350+ teams. Only about 5 or so win their last game. And winning the NIT was a pretty nice springboard for UConn just before they became a national power.

In the past, I felt like winning the NIT would be better than making the NCAA tournament and losing in the first weekend. That's no longer the case but this is still an opportunity to prove the committee made a mistake.

4 Ivy League schools can, but most likely wont
The random B12 or SeC school on probation can

Several schools can….due to not making conf tourney (mac, Ivy, etc) or being ineligible for D1 transition or otherwise. But not all that many do actually win that last game since they tend to be a below average bunch
