How much different would things feel if we were 5-3 or 6-2 at this point?

if a freshmans first year is 2010 and his llast year is 2013, im not sure how you could consider those years in assessing an individual teams status of whether or not they are elite. that said, why the 17 would somebody ignore the current season when discussing how good that EXACT SAME TEAM IS in relation to whether or not they are elite. again, 2008 has absolutely ZERO to do with THIS TEAM. additionally PLAYERS THAT ARE CURRENTLY ON THIS TEAM contributed to 7-1, 8-5, 12-1, and 11-2 seasons....you would be hard pressed to find a red-shirt from 2009 and red shirts from 2008 do not exist and thus should have NO BEARING whatsoever in determining the relative strength of THIS osu team. since you are such an expert, how long DOES it take to build an elite TEAM...not an elite program but an elite TEAM? decades? surely you see the flaw in your logic.

Well

what in the hell do you think we're all talking about? Who in the world ever brings up the word elite and isn't talking about overall programs?

It's

obvious your delta private school education did a great deal...everyone in this discussion is speaking as to their program. Hence why I just used the past 5 years. You're the only person speaking of the past few years to label the elite. I guess your deductive reasoning skills gained from cruger-tchula academy weren't as sharp as you though.

to answer your question, we werent talking about a program....minnesota has multiple national titles and the program is highly decorated, but nobody in their right mind would confuse them with elite. the discussion was about how elite osu currently is and how our hapless team has no business playing a team of that caliber given our current state. i stand by that because nothing good will come from playing a team like that with the type of team and coaching we have displayed over the last two seasons. if you disagree, fine, im not going to fault you for that.

furthermore, i would like to apologize to you and stratdawg. i shouldnt have gone after yall in such a mocking manner. for that i sincerely apologize. im just frustrated that i dont think we are handling the schedule correctly and i think we can all agree that playing the equivalent of jackson state 4x does the team no good, but i would argue, neither does playing a team like oregon 4x. i just think there are other options out there we should be exploring, similar to what nearly every other team in the sec is doing instead of smashing our heads against the wall against teams i perceive as elite...again, you dont have to justify your opinion, as it is already clear.

i went after the both of you a little more than i should, so again, my apologies to stratdawg and kurtrambis. its easy to lose sight that we are all fans of the same team.

lulz....what is a delta? everyone in the discussion? dont you mean, you, me, and stratdawg? again, in speaking about a team, what that team has done in the distant past is irrelevant to whether or not that team is currently considered elite. so, "everyone"...as in us three...are free to discuss our opinions and provide justification for those opinions. when there is nothing else to argue about, lets just argue about the definition of elite. SI agrees with me and you two have your own opinions...i can respect them, but not necessarily agree with them. as far as my education, ive earned 2 bs degrees and currently working on an advanced graduate degree....clearly, im the dumbest one in the room. how is princeton or new haven this time of year?

"Everyone

is the discussion" refers to the people in the discussion on whether or not OSU is an elite program...is it that hard to figure out?

Color me impressed on your great debt you've incurred in the scholastic world.

Everyone

in the discussion (that is the discussion on "elite" describing OSU, to clarify) except you was referring to elite on a program level.

its all there for everyone to see....the FIRST person to talk about a program was stratdawg in his 8:33 A.M. post yesterday. I never once referenced the status of osu's program...not once outside of correcting that misconception. that is not semantics either. there is clearly a difference between a team and a program. its as simple as that. again, i never once referenced a program's status prior to stratdawg doing so and when i did reference the program it was explaining there is a difference between a team and a program. do you agree or disagree? when i talk about whether or not we should play this osu team because the team is elite does that mean i think the program is elite as well? no, it does not.

its common knowledge that when one is speaking about a program, they are speaking in terms of the entirety of the athletic history of that school in a particular sport. when somebody says north carolina has a great womens soccer program, they arent talking about that specific team, they are referring to facilities, teams past and present, history, win %, etc.

a team on the other hand is just that...a collection of individuals.

to illustrate this point, google "best ncaa programs" and "best ncaa teams" and you will get entirely different results. there will be some overlap because good teams generally play for good programs, but they are not one and the same. they simply are not.

again, your definition of everyone is you and stratdawg. others have chimed in to say that osu is not an elite program...something i agree with, but i have never once said osu was an elite program...we were discussing how elite the team was when the kickoff classic was scheduled. again, i argued that, at-best, that team was 4 games removed from a 12 win season and a fiesta bowl win when the contract between osu was announced. thats an undeniable fact.

we can do this all day, but a team ≠ a program. the first to say anything about a program was stratdawg. use the "find" feature of your browser and it will pull up every mention of a program on this page. the first mention is by stratdawg when he criticized me for saying "osu is an elite program" when in fact, that is not something i said.

its there in black and white. now, you may accuse me of playing semantics, but i have already explained why it is not, which brings us to whether or not YOU think a program is the exact same thing as an individual team....well?
