Looking at who they brought in, cant see who was a big money signing.

I just said this in the game thread. I actually hope it’s just that we didn’t have very much money because if we did and Jans thought this was a good portal class then that is damning.

Have you ever had a moment where you weren't being miserable?

Seriously - you ducked off the board for a week after we beat Arkansas and come back giddy to be a negative nancy at every loss in every sport?

Like yea we lost tonight, but damn your pattern of posting sucks and you're only around when State has a loss.

Youre 100 percent right. He was posting on November 1 before the game on the Arkansas thread about do we cover and doesn’t post again until Sunday after we lose. What in the actual ****.

If you're looking for sunshine pumping, go back over to Jean's page. This board was founded on contrarianism in 2003. You're pretty new here. You'll learn soon enough

No. I'm looking for folks who are here through thick and thin. I'm suspicious of bad faith actors here only during thin. Folks only pumping sunshine suck too.

But a guy who has a clear pattern of only being here during perceived downtimes and NEVER posting when we win is a total loser.

Complaining about folks complaining. Just saying.

College players not able to make free throws has been a red flag for me since the beginning. And I don't mean just 1 player.

Looking at the portal class, I don’t think a lot of money was allotted to basketball for nil. At least not in comparison to other sec or p4 programs.

I would think so too. I don’t think that’s it. We run a crap offense, equivalent to most junior high teams.
You think the offense Jans runs is 'turn the ball over!'?

The team didn't execute well on offense and turned the ball over a lot.
That isn't because the entire offensive system is bad.

They turned it over because they kept doing the same crap the entire game. How many times did they pick up the dribble against the trap? How many times did they get trapped on the baseline and pick up the dribble? About 30. This is basic upward basketball level common sense.

ISU defense is active, pressuring, and aggressive.
MSU was not ready for that, and it showed. There was a lot of panic and scramble play. There was a lot of forcing the ball into an area that wasn't open.

Against a lesser team or a lesser defense, a lot of those turnovers are clean passes that lead to scoring opportunities.

Again, MSU wasn't ready for the level of defense that they faced.
Execution is different from the offensive system being bad.

It’s looking like they weren’t funded very well.
One game doesn’t make a season, but man, that was ugly. I’ve wondered since last year — is this just who Jans is? He’ll pull one out against a team we shouldn’t beat, then turn around and drop one or two we have no business losing. Sneak into the tournament, make a quick exit, rinse and repeat. Not trying to pile on, but at some point you have to ask if this is just who we are.

My wife said something last night that hit me — kids today probably don’t want to play for a coach who’s constantly chewing them out (Bob Knight couldn't coach in today's game). Looking at our roster right now, hard to argue she’s wrong.

I was pissed last night but it is just one game against essentially a top 15 team on a neutral sight. A loss its self doesn’t hurt that bad.

The performance is very concerning. Especially because it seemed like lack of effort and focus. Still holding hope this isn’t our identity this year, and it’s just one bad game.

Yup. That is to an extent damning. How were we completely unprepared to handle the trap like that?

That said, we were so clueless I'm not sure it was capable of being fixed during the game. I suspect that will be a point of emphasis at basicalliy every practice until we've proven in a game that we can beat it.

But we may have a big problem with just a lack of ball handling. It didn't look like we had a decent ball handler at all? Hubbard did ok but the guys trapping him were so much longer than him if refs let them body him up like that, it's going to be hard as hell for him to beat it.

I was disappointed in Jan’s last year. That was way too good of a roster to finish with a losing conference record and no wins in tourney.

Remember how awesome we were to start the year and then slowly we got worn down to the point it didn’t even look like the same team at the end?

I’m not really questioning Jan’s as much as wondering if the powers that be didn’t short change the basketball program when it comes to NIL funding, looking at the class , I think basketball was underfunded.

We spent a lot of money on basketball NIL. It’s extremely well funded. The team may suck but it’s not due to a lack of funding. Top 20 recruiting class this past year. You don’t do that without money being invested. They may have invested poorly.

Break it down, you have Epps who started 11 games and averaged 9.5 ppg in the big ten. You have Achor who played 13 mpg and avg 7 ppg. Ballard Avg 10 ppg for Wichita State. Ali stared four games and avg 5 ppg.

this isn’t a very expensive investment. Compare that to every other sec team.

You don’t recruit in the top 20 without investing heavily. Literally impossible. But go with your narrative if you want to live in an alternate reality.

Dude, its been 2 games and the loss was against a very good team.
Maybe wait until the non-conference portion of the schedule is finished before confidently claiming the team is bad and the investment was bad. Or if that is too long, wait 10 games even.

Apparently, no one looked at the stat sheet from last night. The team was 11 of 14 at the free-throw line. that’s 79%.

Our lack of low post offensively and defensively killed us too. They scored 30 points in the paint in the first half.

We haven't looked great the first 2 games but I trust Jans to figure it out. He's earned some cache with his first 3 years.

Be patient gentlemen. With 26 turnovers, we are clearly still learning the basics of passing, dribbling, and staying in bounds.

These things take time.
Yeah, Lebby is 41 and only a 2nd year coach and simple mistakes are going to be made** and we have to be patient. Same with these young gentlemen, they have years to go before they can be expected to perform
