Lebatard asked Stan Van Gundy this yesterday and thought it was an interesting discussion. Van Gundy said 50M/year.

Lets say all the major sports didn't have a salary cap, would LJ be highest paid athlete in America (not counting endorsements)?

What say ye?

I think it's close but he gets the edge. Right now LeBron and Clayton Kershaw are the most dominant athletes in professional sports, you could probably add Bones Jones to that list if you count UFC. Adrian Peterson is probably the best NFL player but a RB will never get that much $. If I was magic johnson I'd make Kershaw the highest paid athlete in history yesterday. They got the money and he's worth it. Last year the highest paid MLB players were Aroid, Cliff Lee and Johan Santana, I didn't even know Santana was still pitching. Seeing that tells you how stupid baseball contracts are.

Dampier made more salary money than Jordan. That's crazy. Also noticed Jordan had wierd contracts. He made roughly 63M of his 90M in 2 season. The made 1M-5M the other years.

Wasn't Brees deal very front heavy? Meaning the majority of the money was in the first 2 years.
