brought in from Oklahoma State- a program on the rise and having alot of success- to your Dad's school, where he was a player and coach. Back to a town you grew up in...You're promised a move into the OC role in the not to distant future- and BAM- they pull the rug out from under you and fire Nutts. And all these offensive coaches names are being mentioned as replacements- which probably leaves you out in the cold- seeking employment elsewhere.<div>

That's how they do up there. Do you think Nutt just said "hey I hear there is this great WR coach at Ok State, let's call him up". I've guessing that Hugh Freeze is the guy they end up landing on, if that happens then I also expect Baby Brewer to be upgraded to OC. Next thing you know the Spirit crowd will be declaring them the next Ok State and all the Memphis recruits will be trapped in their new 'fence'.

some folks still have some irritation at billy for suing the school and not everybody wanted gunter brought in. so definitely not any nepotism there. gunter is a very good coach in his own right and has earned his way, you don't ride billy's coattails around the world of college football too far.

freeze or not, i think it is possible (and i hope) gunter will be retained. one of nutt's biggest mistakes was not keeping 2-3 or orgeron's guys who knew the team, ms, and were good recruiters. i'd bet if anybody is kept it will be him, but not because he's a brewer.

Not necesarily putting the guy down, and yes he probably has succeeded in spite of his family connections. But I do know a lot of Ole Miss alums that really liked having another Brewer around. Maybe there are two camps or split opinions on Billy Brewer.
And for the record Hugh Freeze wouldn't be a bad hire in my opinion. If y'all don't snap him up someone else will. He won't be sunbelt for long. Even if he just bumps up to Confusa he's not going to be at Ark State much longer.

Freeze has connections, is an up and comer, and knows Memphis very well which is fertile recruiting ground. He's worked wonders for Ark State and will come without the baggage of a Leach or Rich Rod. Throwing out names like Dungy or Gruden is stupid but Yancy and Co. are doing that to give the current players and recruits some light at the end of the tunnel to keep them on board. And they'll believe for just long enough.
Putting Archie in charge of the search will give whoever is selected instant credibility.This gives them cover to hire a lesser name. It may not end up as Hugh Freeze but that's my guess. May be someone like Fedora or Hudspeth or a Coordinator if they don't go for a head coach. Frankly I'd be leary of hiring yet another Coach that was fired from his last gig.
Their timing in all this is what makes me think they already have someone in mind. Why fire Nutt nowjust tolet him finish out the season. They only have 12 commits now and other programs have already started calling. If they let the search go past December they are idiots. My guess is that they announce the new coach the week after the Egg Bowl. This is one reason I keep focussing on Freeze, he's familiar and fits the bill as a hot Coach on the rise.
