How realistic is the chance that Mullen bolts for Penn State?

If he did it would have to be the first time that State and Ole Miss both looking for head coaches in the same off season.

But I don't see any SEC coach that's in good standing with his program leaving to go to another conference with all the shuffling andrealignments happening, which will probably take about 2-3 years to all be sorted out.Personally, I like +@+ and what's he's doneto get ourfootball program back on track as well as excite and unite the fanbase, but after looking at his body of work as a head coach, I just don't see any of thesetraditional super power programs hiring him, and if he was going to leave any time soon, last yearprobably was thebest time to do so.

Doubtful he will want to deal with that situation until everything is resolved.

I like Mullen as much as the next guy, but let's be realistic. If the season ended today, Mullen would not make the top 10 list for a major program like Penn State. After a very good season last year, we have been underwhelming at best this season.

Can we PLEASE make it to the end of the season before we start these threads??? I swear this place turns more paranoid than the dork at high school prom where he's freakin' worried his girl is gonna leave him to go do some jock in the back parking lot when she told him she was going to the bathroom when a coaching job opens up. Chill.

if some coach came here and got hired at Penn St. after going 19-15 and 2-10 in our own division
the sellout streak still going
a united fanbase, excited for what the future has
a great AD and President that are willing to do what they need to do to make the football program a success
a plan for a new football facility
a plan of expansion

I would hate to see Mullen go.

You have to think two things right now
...We (athletic dept and pres office) are willing to give and do whatever we can to help Mullen succeed.
...Mullen is determined, relentless, and has a great plan in place in its 3 year
I think Mullen from being at multiple programs and building multiple programs realizes how good he has it here

They can get better than him and they can afford better than him.

If he had a better W/L recrd right now, I'd be more worried than I am.

edited to add:

I had a flash of brilliance. They should offer Nutt the job. I hear he is looking to Help someone new

You might see the Big 12 add two of Louisville/Cincy/BYU, but that's it. There will be some realignment at the 2nd tier level (Big East/CUSA/MWC) level, but that won't matter to anyone in one of the major conferences. The only question is will the BCShave a 6th automatic bid for the Big East/CUSA/MWC champion or go to 5 at-large teams. My bet is on 5 at large teams with a stipulation that any non-BCS team ranked in the top 10 will get a bid.

If my new coach was Mullen, I'd probably say "meh, could have done better".

It wouldn't be a terrible hire, but with PSU's history, tradition, facilities, and cash, Dan Mullen has to down the list a ways. They can get somebody much more proven and a coach that has championships as a HC.

Plus, I think people are over-hyping the PSU connection. Being a fan growing up does not automatically get you brownie points in the coaching search. He's not a former assistant or player. Sure, his past likely would draw him to wanting the job more, but it certainly doesn't make him any more likely of a candidate than any other qualified coach.

people know a good coach when they see one.<div>
</div><div>Mullen will get a look for sure because of his ties to the area, but I'm not so sure Mullen would want that job right now. It's going to get alot worse there before it gets better.</div>

I'm living in State College and Dan's name hasn't been mentioned once around here. Urban Meyer has been gaining steam since they lost to Bama. Now rumor is he already bought a house right outside of town. We will see what happens, but Urban was a big name before the scandal. I expect that to just pick up more steam.

I love the dude. I do. But he hasn't done enough to draw the notice of a program like Penn State, not yet.

I would find it very hard to believe that any coach with a secure job, making $2.5M in the best conference in the country, would want to leave to take over a program that is currently involved in one of the most bizarre and disgusting scandals in college football history. I would have to imagine that this is going to go on for a while and more and more is going to come out.

Can you imagine trying to recruit players to go there? The national perception of Penn St. has taken a huge hit and rightfully so. That being said, why would any recruit (or their parents) want to associate with a school involved in this type of scandal when it would be a lot easier to just go play somewhere else?

Mullen is batshit crazy if he remotely considers Penn State. Penn State could beat Nebraska 80000-0 Saturday, and not a damned soul will be talking about it. Guilty or not, this Sandusky stuff is not something you get over. A guy sets up childrens charities, and sodomizes the children, all of Penn State knew about this, and what did they do?

They kept their mouths shut so egomanic self-righteous Joe Paterno could get to 410 wins and be "the man".

This doesn't go away, the things that are being said will not go away no matter what. Season ticket sales will plummet as fans and alumni realize the vast conspiracy to "protect PSU football / Joe Parterno" at all costs. Penn State knowingly had a child molesting predator on campus, even as recent as last week. Do you support this program? Do you send your kids to camps there now?

If this happened at Mississippi State, I'd cut all ties immediately. If it was one of my kids, I'd be emptying clips.

cluster17, then good riddance. Surely he has more sense and morals than that. I now have a new least favorite school in college ball.

The thought of allowing this sick **** to happen to kids so they can pet Paterno's wins or protect a 17n game that amounts to jack **** is revolting. We're talking about ruining innocent kid's lives to protect a game. Think about that. Ridiculous. I hope nothing but the worst for that school and everyone involved.
