I rarely agree with Carino. But he nails it.

Speaking of the AD search, here is a second piece of advice: Scrap the search firms. In 2013, Rutgers paid $70,000 to Parker Executive Search for a background check on Hermann. Oops.

We could fill a separate column with search firm rip-offs. Minnesota paid Parker $112,000 to do a background check on AD candidate Norwood Teague. It failed to uncover a gender discrimination complaint lodged against him. Minnesota hired Teague, and three years later a wave of sexual harassment allegations took him down and sullied the school.

Instead of a search firm, Barchi should lean on one of the most respected, influential guys in college sports to point Rutgers in the right direction. Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany has a vested interest in seeing the Scarlet Knights succeed. Think he might be able to help?

Of course Delany tried to help last time, recommending Sean Frazier of Wisconsin for the AD job. Barchi ignored him, which is like ignoring Peyton Manning’s advice on how to throw a football.

Yea the Sean Frazier who along with Alvarez had their own issues at Wisconsin with underage drinking at bowl parties and mishandling of harassment of a student/athlete by an administrator or coach that they got a formal reprimand.

If we just let go one AD because of oversight issues why would we hire another one knowing this kind of stuff is in his past beforehand. On top of which if he's so good why's he only get the NIU job. He's been passed over for other openings some where he was candidate like BC and others not even mentioned at all.

This isn't the name to be looking towards. Carino suggests it and he along with all the other media would kill us again for it.

Carino is a bit snarky in his comments. But he is correct in his point that Barchi doesn't have a lot of experience in running college athletics (his ivy league experience is a different planet).

So he needs to listen to expert advice. But he can't follow that advice blindly (like Grunninger did when Bill Walsh recommended Terry Shea).

I agree Delany is a good source. Walsh is a perfect example with Shea. Use it but don't just take everything at face value and do you due diligence.

Delaney yes...San Fillipo as an interim..hell no. Bob M might be just as good for an interim especially if GS returns. His political connections and knowledge is most valuable. Interesting to note that he has been very visible at recent home games both on the sidelines and in the Audi Club. He just may be the major contact involved in the Schiano return rumors.
