Necks in Carroll County have been doing this for at least 30 years. We use a rock (no golf balls in the county) and pull from the opposite direction. Many people don't use this method as you will have to hang it anyway and it can be caped in 10 minutes or so.

Yep... It's cool, but I don't think this would speed up our cleaning time. With 2 people, we can hang and clean a deer within 10 minutes. In fact, the golf ball method would probably add to our total time.

A couple inherent problems with it. Generally, it's done while the deer is hanging, but this means you have to hang it by it's head, thus causing all the blood to rush to the hindquarters. In my experience, it also takes almost as much time to get everything setup for this "trick" as it does to just go ahead and clean it normally...

We had a different set up but the same premise.

A boat wench was set on a post about chest high. The cable ran down through a pulley attached to the bottom of the post. Once the deer was hung up (of course using another winch and pulley), we'd run the cable up and winch the hide down.

No truck. No electricity needed.

In the end though it probably save a few cut fingers and maybe a couple minutes or so because you aren't doing it right if a couple people take longer than 10 minutes to skin a deer.

on a semi-related note, anyone have any luck with this last cold front that came thru? i've been seeing more does and young deer but the bucks are still moving at night in my area. i've seen one small buck, a cull i couldn't get a shot on, and cow horns which i also couldn't get a shot on.

This would be handy if you were by yourself I was thinking. And if it was cold outside cause your hands freeze trying to skin it.

I strictly bowhunt on the ground. I have several ground blinds constructed out of surrounding material. I have many reasons why I hunt on the ground but number 1 its the most challenging and adrenaline producing for me. I have seen more bucks than does but none really chasing; As of Thanksgiving weekend in Lowndes County. I will hopefully make it back up there this weekend.

But I had several nice 8 points and a 6 hanging around some some does all in bow range. Passed them up. Waiting on this 11 pt to get in range. Now if I still rifle hunted he would have been dead last year.

I had a doe walk within about 5 yards of me...I need a sword for close range action.
