USM fans are excited, all 10 of them.

State fans are pissed or ambivalent.

And that should tell you all you need to know. The fact that they want to play us both so badly just further proves why we shouldn't.

All their players will hear until the game is played is how much they need to beat y'all. Your players won't hear **** about it because SEC teams have bigger fish to fry.

Also, good luck to the MSU fans going to Hattie for this game. It'll be like a trip to Baton Rouge without the food, atmosphere, or ****** chicks. Just the drunk obnoxious retards throwing stuff at you (which is the reason they go to USM in the first place and not LSU).

the day we went on their schedule. The minute we go on their schedule, we become their biggest rival. We don't need another rivalry game at this point. Hopefully we'll be in a position team-wise where that game is no big deal, however as a 20+ year State fan I'm not holding my breath.

Yep, look at our games with Memphis over the years. Take 2003 for example. They beat one of our better teams and went on that year to lose badly to USM, lose to UAB, and lose to a 2-10 MSU team.

Then look at this year. They played us tough for a few quarters, playing like their life depended on it. Then the next week they give little effort and get waxed by MTSU.

The last thing you want is another team on your schedule that is going to save their best for you, especially if it's a team that ranks well down your list of important games.

O.k. I've been reading all the discussion for and against, and I've yet to make up my mind. I'm old enough to remember losing to them in Jackson. On the other hand, the last time we played them in Starkville might have been one of the best non-SEC games I've ever seen at Scott Field.

So, what does Florida/FSU, Ga Tech/UGA, USC/Clemson, UK/Louisville, LSU/Tulane have for game appeal that our USM/MSU match up doesn't offer? The only reason I can draw for us not wanting to play them is we are chicken. If we are a team on the rise and team that will be back to the 90's of not just dreaming of a bowl but bitching about not getting into the bowl we wanted, we should play them. I plan on beating them and letting that be the end of the discussion.

<span style="text-decoration: underline;">Arguments Against:</span>

Florida/FSU = SEC v. ACC and main instate rivalry
Ga Tech/UGA = SEC v. ACC and main instate rivalry
USC/Clemson = SEC v. ACC and main instate rivalry
UK/Louisville = main instate rivalry
LSU/Tulane = LSU ended the series after deciding it wasn't worth it

Personally, I could careless either way, but those are the differences between MSU/USM and the games you cite. Four of the five aren't really analogous with LSU/Tulane being the only one that is really comparable and the SEC school in that one won't play the "inferior" school anymore.
